Radiator Overflow Tanks

I like using washer fluid reservoirs from our trucks. You can get them new repop along with brackets. Mount them on the opposite fender as the washer reservoir and they look factory. You can buy a certain style lid for them that works well. I have a couple of extra new lids if anyone needs one that I would be willing to sell. PM me if you are interested.

I put the old grille on last night to check for room to mount the tank. Since mine is 3" diameter it's a tight fit in front of the core support unless I mount it on the center support like in post 21. The downside of that is all of the bugs and stuff that comes through the grill will splatter in it.

It can't go on the inside on the right side because of the battery tray and I'd have to make special brackets to mount it between the battery and fender. It's too pretty to hide like that anyway. I think i'll put it on the core support on the drivers side above the weld nut for the horn. It's just 10" long so it should be fine there and I can see and admire it. I may even run a hard line to it if I can find some stainless tubing. I guess aluminum would be ok too.

I used an empty NOS energy drink bottle with a hole drilled in the cap clamped to the battery tray. I would take a pic but I am not home

I was running into the same issue a couple of months ago and did some research. I didn't like the chrome ones, and found a sweet overflow tank through Jegs.

It is satin black and is powercoated. It worked out great for me and keeps a low profile. I will see if I can get a picture after the holidays. I mounted mine on the front of the radiator mount and drilled a 1/2 hole for the hose to fit through to the radiator. I was happy with how it turned out.

Plus, it was only $50, which is right around the same ball park as other ones on the market.

here is my set up.....hose ranned under the rad support....it looks black but it is billet it is the reflection of the inner fender....

i had a flat black and white 72 that was bodydroped and i used a jack daniels bottle. worked great with the paint scheme and i think it got more attention than the bodywork or frame when i went to shows.

I used a overflow from a mid 70's Monte carlo I think. Doesn't really matter which one you use.

I just discovered that I never posted a picture of the tank installed. This is the 3" diameter Billet Specialities stainless with billet cap. I ran the hose under the radiator and secured it with 2 soft clamps using existing holes. The overflow hose is just hanging down for now. I'll clamp it to something before I'm done with it.

I just installed a new radiator and want to install an overflow. I see those stainless steel models everywhere but have a real stupid question. Why are there 2 tubes running out of the bottom on all i see? My cheapo plastic one just has 1 hose connection on the bottom.

One is from the radiator and the other is a vent for the overflow.

Does that mean it will only vent out if the overflow is full or overheating? Everything will stay contained during the normal driving heat and cooldown?

Yes, When the overflow gets past a certain level it will vent fluid out.

The plastic over flow tank's should have a cold mark and a hot mark on it. You want to keep the jug filled to the cold mark all the time. The only time the hot level should be seen is right after turning the vehicle off. If you add the tank you should never have to take the radiator cap off to check level. The over flow should be where you check it.
