Cross Member Question - Why

What is the purpose of the odd cut outs on either end of this cross member?

Is it to reduce stress\stiffness?

Re: Cross Member Question - Why

The e-brake cables run thru there, that's the only purpose I see.

I'd say so that it can be installed. Tolerances are such that it's tough to make a part of one piece that will always fit internally. The cut outs let it flex outward or inward and then it gets riveted in place.

Re: Cross Member Question - Why

I'd put my money on frame twist so the x-member won't tear or crack

Re: Cross Member Question - Why

Glass pack was on when I bought it. I wanted it quieter. Threw a muffler on the back.

Funnily enough it sounds good now.

I have 2.25" stainless pipe and a magnaflow on the way. It's low on the priority list right now. Rebuilding the cab is time consuming....

In the driveway no less . Waiting for the neighbors to complain.
