buffer foam pad to much grip
I usually use my wool pad when buffing new paint. But I have been reading a lot of guys use the foam pad to finish the job. My problem is when I try to use the foam pad it wants to grip and bounce instead of just staying on the panel. What am I doing wrong? I am using 3m finesse it compound.

Re: buffer foam pad to much grip
Perhaps too much pressure, another thing that is extremely important is pad rotation and related angle to the surface. If you have the pad angled in a way that has the down side of the angle spinning into the surface is will bite and start hoping, same goes for edges, always spin off of the edge. Maybe too much speed, not enough compound.

Re: buffer foam pad to much grip
I have tried to let up on the pressure but that did not help. The speed is just under medium. I also have tried more compound but then is just slings everywhere

Re: buffer foam pad to much grip
First off, are you using a little mist of water? Second, is the pad gumming up or is it clean?

Re: buffer foam pad to much grip
Are you left handed? Reason I ask is because, as sprint_9 mentioned, the contact area of the pad matters. I hold the handle with my right, and with the wheel spinning clockwise when viewed from behind, I contact the paint with the top left edge of the wheel. It is the most natural place for me to contact, and turns out to be the best spot. I would think if you were left handed you would contact with the top right side of the wheel which would cause it to bounce. Sometimes top right contact cant be avoided and when I buff like that, the wheel always hops all over.

Re: buffer foam pad to much grip
I did not think about how to hold the buffer. I am right handed so I will try just using the top left edge of the pad. No water and yes the pad is clean. Great ideas that is why I posted to this forum. You guys always think of things I have not tried. THANKS
