AM Radio question

Anybody know a good way to figure out exactly what is wrong with my factory AM radio, low buck?

I am pretty certain that buying a used radio will be the cheapest way out unless you know someone that will repair it. I know around here, you are looking at $100 for repairs and up.

I've seen several nice looking factory AM radios for our trucks go cheap at shows. I have one I bought for $10 that is still nice. Probably never put it in one of my trucks though.

Got my knobs from Ron Manes www.manestruckparts.com from Raytown MO USED.... think he had some more left. His phone number is on his website... at the bottom I believe. If not I may have some extras... but I am not sure where they are at compared to him who will know right where they are.

I paid $10 and $15 for the two working radios I have, the $15 came with the brackets and speaker and power wire. Both had the knobs etc... Now if I just had picture of the mounting.....

Jims70GMC,

Here is a picture of the speaker/radio mounting bracket. It is mounted to the inside of the firewall with two screws. The speaker bracket slides into the slot and is held in place with one screw. The hanging bracket fastens to the radio to hold it up.

If you need other pictures, I can take more.

Jim, Thanks, I'll look at it this afternoon and let you know if I can make sense out of it.

Well I looked and I see how it goes. But I don't have two holes to bolt the bracket to the firewall?? What do I do?

We have a Burb that is still wide open under the dash. If I can locate some reference points, I will get some measurements for you tonight.

Excellent, because when I look through the radio I don't see any holes to mount the bracket to the cowl/firewall.

Jim's70 gmc,

If you use the centerline of the speaker grill as a reference point, (side to side),measure down from the dash 2" , then the two mounting holes are centered on this centerline. They are are 2 1/14" apart (or 1 1/8" from the centerline).

There may be two dimples marking the location of the holes.

Let me know if you need any more information.

Jim

Jim, Thanks I found the dimples does this mean my truck originally did not come with a radio?

Tynee, sorry for hijacking your post, hope you got your radio working.

Yes it does. Did you have a radio delete plate with the truck?

No, PO had installed a radio (POS) and cut the doors for speakers.

Jim70, GET YOUR OWN FREAKIN' POST!. Just kiddin'. I actually have been out of town every since I started the thread.
Back to the original subject, the only thing working on my Radio is the light on the dial. I'll probably just replace it. I actually don't intend to use it anyway, I'm going to mount a CD player under the dash.

He he, I just picked up a AM radio at a swap meet, $20 CDN and the guy said he took it out of his truck 27 years ago, near perfect chrome on it too.
