Headlights

I know there have been many threads about headlights, but i have not seen any recent ones. i am looking to purchase new headlights and was thinking about going to LED. Just curious if anyone has installed any of these.

I was thinking of something like this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/7-Stock-Styl...XcvDJ&vxp=mtre

i dont want the halo rings

Re: Headlights

Personally, I would stick with Halogen or HID. After dealing with LED kits like that and having zero good things to say. The HID is going to allow you to see further and you'll be able to aim your headlights better. I bought a set of LED's off ebay for another project and had nothing but issues. I finally just converted that kit over to HID.

Re: Headlights

Ok i am good with HIDs, but do they have high/low or just high. And i have read that you need to order a resistor or relay. Do kits come with these?

Re: Headlights

a headlight relay harness is good to add even if you keep your old lights, easy install. as far as I know resistors are needed for led tail and turn signal lights to stop a hyper flash, which they now have flasher relays with one built in to stop that, shouldn't need one anywhere else. Halogen bulbs should be plug and play, hid are plug and play except you will have to mount the ballast box that they need to start, they are small and each light will have one. yes they have hi/lo, I put some on a motorcycle one time. check the web site for DDM tuning, that is where I got mine, they have lifetime warranty ballasts, and many choices for bulb color. but there shipping is slow, like 3 weeks from japan

Re: Headlights

The few kits I have bought have come with everything you need to make them work. On the high/low side of things, when your looking for a certain kit make sure it says it'll do both, some will come with two bulbs for one housing. I've bought them both ways, so its really all on what you find if your using ebay.

http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/UltraHIDKit I am not affiliated with this company but have used them before...... choose bulb color depending on what color you want your light. I prefer crisp white 5500k , the lower the number the yellower the light, the higher the number the bluer the light. they even have a relay harness

Bosch, Hella or any of the vintage Cibie, Carello or Lucas. Like a camera good optics are critical. Good bulbs and wiring that can handle the current are also important. It's really hard to beat good old fashioned H4 European lights. Best I can recall Cibie actually used Lead crystal on some of the old light lenses. I worked for a Cibie dealer in the late 70's and I have a vintage Cibie optical aimer. I also collect every old quality light I can get. Lots of them make their way onto projects.

I used these LED bulbs and they work great! http://www.ebay.com/itm/252295580117...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT some before and after pics. The other bulb is a standard H4.

Re: Headlights

I run 4-beam HI/LO KenSun HID in my GMC truck. There are a total of four transformers, so it's a bit of wiring, but the result is nice. I'm using the H4 housings from LMC (I think they're H4 anyway) and then the HID lamps on those.

Sometimes eBay HID can be a ticket to despair - glare, bright foreground, and a bunch of other things that don't help you see further. But so far I'm pretty happy with them, and you get a crisp cutoff line.

I also had one burn out that I'm sure was out of warranty and they sent me a free replacement. When that one turned out to have a slightly different color, they sent me yet another free replacement. So great service.

Check out KenSun.com, but they're all over eBay.

Remember to keep the color temp at 3K or less if you don't want them blue looking!

This.

I know of no current housings in a 7" configuration that are manufactured in a fashion that allows for proper LED light distribution. In other words, you can't just pop in LED elements in any ol' housing and expect good results.

Save yourself a ton of aggravation and disappointment and go with Bosch E-codes, a set of quality bulbs and a relay harness.

Re: Headlights

LMC truck has H4 7" lights and harness , I bought a set for my suburban and love them.they look almost stock.and what a huge difference in lighting up the road at night.I bought a set for my 72.just a few weeks ago..not sure I like the look of them, they look too modern, they changed the style since I bought my other ones so I bought some Hella lights off Amazon, they look almost original, will use the Hella lights with the harness / relays from LMC

Re: Headlights

I went with the Cibie H1 & H4 headlamps and bulbs combo with relay kit wired so all 4 headlamps come on giving both flood and pencil beam on high. The difference over stock is amazing. In fact, it's better than many new car light configurations. Make sure they are aimed properly.

I have not, but my understanding is that to work properly projector lights require a deeper housing than any bolt in conversion light will allow. Plus there is no OEM engineering behind them to ensure quality optics and beam pattern. So personally I would avoid them.

Re: Headlights

When you put hid in these kind of headlamps, you have great lighting but do glare badly for others and they will blink you, unless you find ones with a projector with a cutoff in them... but hey its your truck and do what ya want!
