rear axle question

I have a 71 with 3.08 positraction 12 bolt truck rear (3.07?) and its gonna need more
Gear. Can i go to a 4.11 or higher gear set in this housing? Or do i have to keep
It 3.73 or below? Anybody know for certain? Thanks,Tony

The housing is fine but you'll likely have to swap the carrier.

I ran thick 4.10 gears in my Jimmy when it still had the 12 bolt. You can buy gears that will work with your 3 series carrier.

But if you have a 4 series you can't go numerically lower as the gears would be too thin.

Not tryin to thread jack , but does anyone know torque spec on spider gear pin lock bolt on same setup? 71 c10 12 bolt. Did axle bearings & seals. I searched hi & lo cant find any spec on bolt.
