Where to put the battery

I am building a 46 pickup and I can't decide where to put the battery. Not much room under the hood. Any ideas? I like to see some pics if you have some.

I run a 67 tray bottom -- with modified supports on this 42. If I put a heater core in it -- which I really have no reason --- I would have to put the radiator hose connections lower than stock. I do need to lay the alt out a little to get rid of a startup squeal and yes my master cylinder has a slight cant to it -- not planned. On right side of battery --brace goes down.

My 46 which has the 1954 235 inline 6 will remain under the floor.

On my 40 I put the battery under the truck by building a battery box that bolts to the frame rail and drops down when I need to change the battery. On my 39 I am going to build a bracket and box to mount it under the front fender like I did on my 41 coupe. I don't care much for looking at a battery under the hood.

Mines going in the bed of the truck inside an old Coke cooler I found at an antique shop.

I thought about doing that but it also takes up room in the bed and it makes it a target of thieves.

If somebody wants your truck, it doesn't matter where you put the battery.

I was referring to the cooler not the truck.

Thanks for the input. I like the battery under the hood for ease of service but there is not much room. I guess I will have to see were the heat and A/C stuff is going to go. Need room for the A/C dryer. I was thinking about a trap door in the bed floor. Just looking for other ideas!

Sorry to highjack...Dennis I see a concern in the photo you posted & thought I'd bring it to your attention incase my thinking turns out correct, you'll know right where to look. What I'm seeing is the lack of wrap on your waterpump. That "skimming" off of the side of the pulley like that will likely not run the pump under load. Lorne

That mount and arm came from speedway. Since then I have laid the alternator more toward the passenger side ande redid the arm --added 3 inches to the belt.

Hi,
I ran into the same problem/worry with the belt on the water pump and what I did was find a double grove water pump pulley and looped the power steering belt over the water pump so both belts run it.

Under the floor, since you should only need to hook a trickle charger to it in the future and that's where it was to begin with right
