47-55.1 blown 292 HP - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I had a nice long talk with Mike Kirby (Sissle). I called him about dry sump plumbing but we got off on other things such as "chicks dig it" and expected HP out of my blown 292. He said 8.5-1 compression with 8-9 lbs of boost on pump gas 500-550 HP. Party pulley and race fuel 18-20 lbs of boost 750 HP. Stupid pulley, race fuel, dowel the mains 28-30 lbs boost, 950-1000 Hp. He says he knows 3 guys running in that range and 1 guy has run the same engine for 8 seasons. 292's are awesome. I don't have a belly button.

I don't what the blown 292 I saw at Billetproof drags had for horsepower but that thing ripped in the 1/8 Mile and seemed to just be hitting it's stride at the finish line.

The sound coming out of the truck as it passed the finish line was unreal and ulike anything else I have heard.

If you scroll down the page there are several photos of the engine when the truck was in the pits along with photos of a turbo charged 250 in a Black T coupe.

I'm always amazed at how much weigth is just hanging on those intake bolts. Between that and the force of the blower pulley yanking on the intake, you would think the bolts would snap right off inside the block.

I have to have a custom intake made because of my 12 port cross flow head. The guy making the manifold (Hogans Racing Manifolds) out of NC. will put a gusset down to the engine mount for support. It helps that my headers are on the passenger side for clearance.

Good hunting there 1project2many. I was dealing with having had two teeth pulled when I posted that and wasn't up to posting individual photos.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
