3 on the tree value?
I've been thinking of putting a overdrive auto in my 66. I've got a 3 on the tree transmission in it now. Just wondering what everything would be worth minus steering column. I know it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, but is there even any demand for these parts?

Is it the Saginaw with the syncromesh 1st gear, or the old stop n'drop Muncie?

Condition is key.. working and known to be free of trouble means the difference between a usable part and a boat anchor. There are still enough guys around who want to get their stock rig going that would be interested in a bankable trans. I think the worth of a core, on the other hand, would be determined solely by it's weight.

I'm not exactly sure what transmission it is, I've never had to mess with it. It's all there and it works good, that's part of the reason I'm still using it

drove this 68 GMC three on the tree all over SF while going to C school on Treasure Island, even took it down Lombard St.
on the freeway, it liked to pop out of 3rd so I kept a bungee to hook the shifter under the seat, lol, loved driving that truck

If it is the original trans. it is the non-sycro 1st gear Muncie. They do sell good if you assure the guy it is good. It is a lot easier then rebuilding one. They bring about $75- $100.

....and if it happens to be the later model Saginaw, guys like me would be interested in it as an upgrade due to the sycro'd first gear. Because, let's face it, sometimes it sucks to have to come to a stop just to grab first gear. Either way, if you lived closer to me I'd have already p.m'd you an offer.

Thanks for all the info. If I do end up pulling it all out soon I'd definitely rather sell, trade, or give to someone on this forum. This forum is by far the most helpful and laid back forum I've been on.

I still have the 3 speed out of my 64 C10. I changed to a T5. The 3 speed is in great shape. I'm in the LA area.
