Fuel Pump ???

I just got a new fuel pump, but it only has 2 ports while my current pump has 3. I know that the "extra" line is a return. is the return line necessary on a 72? or can I run the new pump without the return with no issues??

I just did this to mine. Installed a 2 port fuel pump and just left the one coming from the tank unhooked. No problems. Many people do this

What pressure does the carb need and how much pressure/flow does the pump produce? If it is a high pressure/volume pump you should run a return line. If not I believe the pump won't last as long. Don't know all the details but I remember that from when I installed my blazer tank (and used the in tank pump).

it is a high pressure pump. I do have an adjustable pressure regulator set at 6 psi.

What brand of fuel pump did you purchase? I put an Edelbrock fuel pump on my 84 and it only had the two ports, where the factory installed one had three. I found that I had some issues with the fuel line getting vapor locked, so I purchased the Edelbrock lower plate that has four ports in it and made a small outlet for the return line. This solved some of my overheating of the fuel and allowed for me to run a high pressure pump without issue.
