Re: Zane's Ride

Taking an informal poll of color choices for Zane's Ride:
Green
Baby Blue
Red
Anything but yellow
Gun metal gray
Rat rod primer
Brown and white 2-tone
Chevy's look good in any color

Zane's favorite colors were green and black; the plan is to stick to stock restoration, and the green would be a dark green/forest green.
I look forward to hearing your responses! And we will get more photos next week!

Re: Zane's Ride

A 2 tone green & black would look sharp if you pinstripped with a white to seperate it. This truck deserves a decent paint job I wouldn't make it a rat rod.

Sounds like a good plan to me too! If not the two tone, then all Forrest Green would be my vote.

Re: Zane's Ride

I need suggestions on something: when the news article came out, some folks suggested that the finished truck have 'Zane's Ride' somewhere on it. I've been thinking about this. I want it to be classy. Any ideas? One I had is a small chrome or black logo on the tailgate above the 'CHEVROLET', not painted on, but fastened on. What do you think?

Re: Zane's Ride

I took a 1/8" flat bar stock of aluminum and copied the font style from a buddy's 55 Chevy Post. I wrote his last name on the aluminum and then cut away the rest to expose his name. Polished it.
He used 2 face adhesive for installing glass to window frames to stick it to his car. Took awhile to do but the affect was cool.
I'm sure with today's technology it could be done much faster.
It would be nice if installed on the glove compartment much like the original crest from 1960.

Re: Zane's Ride

Yeah, feeling much better. Just cant get out and about yet.

For the "Zane's Ride" dedication. How about something like this

A custom plaque can be made out of just about any material and can be riveted/glued/screwed just about anywhere. I'd suggest one on the glove box and maybe a couple more on each fender just below the "C10" badges.

I dont doubt we can get enough donations easily and order from someplace like this.

http://www.plaquemaker.com/Plates/Brass_Signs_Tags.html

Prices are very reasonable.

Re: Zane's Ride

I have been checking out several of you guy's build threads. It is so cool to see the metamorphosis: the dreams becoming reality! I am very impressed with the dedication and long-term time investment you all make! And a lot of the photos bring back great memories of my Dad's old Chevy pickup when I was very small. All of it is very inspirational!

Re: Zane's Ride

Question for when the time comes: the original upholstery on the bench seat is like a velour fabric (faded red). What's best to reupholster it with?
I will be checking on project progress Thursday, and will get more pics to post.

Re: Zane's Ride

Went by the school yesterday. The kids are making slow steady progress: the goal for now is to get the body ready for a coat of primer before Summer break. Then we should also have an idea of what we still need and I will post a list. The Fall will begin the expensive part of the project, so I am doing a bake sale and a car wash to raise more money over the Summer. We will post photos tomorrow. I did take one pic of the underside of the seat from he 1962 (we are not using this seat) and I saw the build sheet under the springs. Any thoughts on how to get it out intact?

Re: Zane's Ride

If you are not using the seat, they could disassemble the seat. Take out all of the hog rings and clips, pull off the vinyl, then take the foam and burlap off. the build sheet should be easy enough to get to like that.

If the seat is in decent shape, they could possibly reassemble it for resale...
