trannys

well rude awakening after smoking two trannys in my 96 Tahoe
overheated on on the 300 mile trip and put in a rebuilt used and smoked it in less than 100 miles
problem the rad tranny cooler
solution external tranny cooler and rebuild
total cost two weeks and $5500 cdn ouch right at xmas

This is why I don't understand why GM didn't include trans temp gauge like the engine gets. Either one goes out and your stuck with big repair bills yet only engine is watched. Bad move on GM's part.

( temp gauge) ...I was told by a performance transmission builder that installing a tranny temp gauge will drive a driver nuts!! The temp climbs up and down so much.

I installed a Seatrab cooler. I won't use the radiator for cooling.....

I, too, learned my lesson....

2 things kills your tranny... over heat & an improperly adjusted throttle cable ( fluid pressure).

What was the problem with the rad/trans cooler? Completely clogged?
