hard to find-reg cab w/v8

To make a long story short I have more truck than I need. I have a low mileage 2006 crew cab with the 5.3 v8. What I need is just a comparable mileage reg cab but I want a v8. Those trucks are hard to find. Ran an ad in craigslist asking to trade and all I get is calls wanting to buy my truck. Seems that most all the reg cabs have the 4.3 v6. Anyone want to chime in on the virtues of the 4.3?

Re: hard to find-reg cab w/v8

150K miles, never a problem.
Runs smooth as new, never been apart. original water pump, starter, etc.
Only plugs/wires /cap-n-rotor and oil changes. Oh, and the Dex-cool turned to Jello.
Driven like a stolen truck for the seven years/100k miles or so I've owned it.
(Now I probably jinxed it...)

Re: hard to find-reg cab w/v8

I’m not sure but I had heard you couldn’t get the 5.3 in the reg cab trucks only 4.8? I looked at a joe Gibbs special edition back in 2005 and all the reg cabs were supercharged 4.8 and ext cabs 5.3s

Re: hard to find-reg cab w/v8

I don't have to have a 5.3, just would prefer a v8-4.8 would be fine. I am thinking the 4.3 v6 is a derivation of the old 350 based 4.3. That being a 90 deg bank angle would require split crank journals to be even firing. Structurally I never liked that arrangement but that dislike seems to be non-founded as I never heard of a 4.3 with a crank problem.

Re: hard to find-reg cab w/v8

My 2006, is a factory swb reg cab with 4.8 and 3.42 gearing. I had a choice from 3 at the chev dealer in Denton when I bought it new. I had a 2002 swb reg cab that was a z71 with 3.73 gears but still had the 4.8. I like the mileage of the 4.8 but the 3.73 gear in the 2002 accelerated better.

There is at least one 2006 with a 5.3 shown on this thread.

Re: hard to find-reg cab w/v8

I would love to have one also.
2006 or 2007 (classic) 2wd shortbed with a V8.
I'd prefer a power window truck too.

I can find longbeds every once in a while,... but all the short beds are V6 work trucks.

Yea, I always get the convenience package with my w/t's -power windows/locks. Every truck I have bought new is/was a reg cab swb except one that is a long bed.

I think wt's could only get the 4.8 or 4.3 choice --maybe.

I just bought a 2004 Sierra with 4.8 and liking it. I searched for a long time, but most of the single cabs were like you say v6. I'm partial to v8 also

I'm not sure if they changed the rules by 2006, but my buddy has a regular cab 1999 with a 5.3.

Re: hard to find-reg cab w/v8

I have a 99 reg cab short bed with a 5.3 and I know a guy that has a 2001 reg cab with 4.8. I'm a fan of the 4.3 for the fuel economy, but the LS series V8 engines are great.

Look further South. They're around. Although my dad has an 01 with a V6. He claims it was worth it because it had low miles. I personally hate driving it. He used to have an 01 with a 5.3 and let my brother have it. As for regular cabs not being available with a 5.3, that's nuts, because I've seen too many.

Re: hard to find-reg cab w/v8

My DD is a '07 classic, reg cab 4.3 . Was my uncle's that I got when he died with only 25k on it. Now has 128K with zero issues. The truck is fine for running around town, but gets worse mileage (14mpg) than a V8. It's a good truck, just underpowered for when out running in highway traffic & forget pulling anything with it (even an empty 4-wheeler trailer). All that being said, the $ was right & have had no issues, so will keep this "buzzin half dozen" for a daily since I have another truck for pulling or long trips.

Re: hard to find-reg cab w/v8

why not find a V6 truck and upgrade the engine to a V8? if you took the engine out of a complete truck and snagged the computer and the complete wire harness. i would imagine it to be a plug and play situation?

this is the first not 99-02 I've seen that is a 5.3. I always figured but couldn't prove there was no 5.3 RCSB after 2002.

So please confirm, this is a drive by wire RCSB 5.3? so red/green pcm.

If so, that is awesome
