Re: Work Trucks - Utility / Service / Company / Fire / County

Quick question for anyone who might know....

I have a k10 long bed that I would love to install a utility box on. Can 8 foot utility boxes be installed on 1/2 tons without overloading the suspension?

Reason I ask is because I seem to see most utility beds on 3/4 ton long beds.

Thoughts? Experiences?

Just put overload or helper springs on.

Or even swap out your 1/2 leafs for 3/4.

Re: Work Trucks - Utility / Service / Company / Fire / County

I wonder if 3/4 leaf springs off a 73-87 would work?

The springs are not the only consideration regarding the weight. The 12 bolt isn't going to hold up long under a 8 foot utility bed loaded down with tools and supplies. It all depends on how you are going to use the truck.

Re: Work Trucks - Utility / Service / Company / Fire / County

Thank you CaptainFab.

That was one of my main concerns. I would definitely be loading the utility bed with all my tools, and the weight of all the tools, plus the heavy utility bed made me think a k10 might not be able to handle that constant weight.

I might need to go in another direction with my K10. Now about finding a 66 K20.....

Re: Work Trucks - Utility / Service / Company / Fire / County

Yeah with that constant weight a C/K20 would be a better choice.

Kinda a concept I had with side boxes recessed down into the bedsides some.

The "Fire Bucket" working at the Viking Run here in Denmark we hauled a lot of power cables for that one. Set up temporary power for 2375 cars and trucks campers dealers and such. Every 2 years in Roskilde Denmark. I put her to work every chance I can.
