Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

Here are some pics of my 1990 Z71 equipped sport. I have never seen another one like it.

Unfortunately I had to sell it when my second daughter was born because there was nowhere to put a second car seat.

That's a super-looking truck. You must miss it. The stance is perfect.

Grass must grow really fast in Lufkin, huh?

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

I was working in Hopewell VA a couple weeks ago, went to another job near Emporia for a "whiz quiz", saw this in the parking lot. It's automatic, red loback buckets w/ console, couldn't tell much more. Thought maybe y'all would like to see some (poor cellphone) pics:

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

Slick truck But I don't think it is a actual Sport truck. Those are aftermarket Mirrors, and I the low back buckets came in the 88-89 ext cab trucks.

Can't see it in those pics but it has the red n black beltline moulding that (AFAIK)only came with the BYP package. U sure the mirrors are aftermarket? Also notice the foglights.

My 1990 C1500 RCLB came with the low back buckets, but not the sport package, however, it was ordered with the ZQ8 suspension.

I see the moldings now, you can actually buy those in mexico at dealerships believe it or not. But either way, yes sir, those are aftermarket mirrors. Street scene mirrors.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

Those mirrors are absolutely aftermarket. Street Scene Cal-Vu mirrors or the could be the cheaper copies made by AIM, but same thing.

With nothing further to go on, I wouldn't call this one a Sport either. Sure it has the moldings, but that's it. Chrome grille and bumper aren't Sport items. There's a possibility that it could have started life as one, but if it did, someone spent a lot of time de-Sporting it.

Yeah, and if its a true sport and they did de-sport it thats a shame.

My 89 Sierra ST has the low back bucket seats. They were original.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

The biggest reason I found this thread was due to me trying to find out if the 89STs are very rare. I would like to keep the numbers matching but then again I would love to do an LS swap. How many of the fleet side STs were made. I can't find any information on the subject.

Lookup the GM Heritage Center. That will be your best bet, either contact them or figure out what combination of RPOs it took to make a fleet side ST.

Funny you should mention that. I spoke with GMC a couple days ago, not much info.
Transcript from CARS_Brands dated Sep 24, 2015 2:48:08 PM
In response to question: GMC - Question/concern about a vehicle I own
System: Welcome to GMC
System: http://www.gmc.com
System: Welcome to chat.
Agent Elizabeth says: Thank you for contacting GMC Customer Assistance, Chris! My name is Elizabeth, how can I assist you today?
Customer Chris Cannon says: I just have a question
Customer Chris Cannon says: I have a 1989 Sierra ST. I Wwould like to know how many were built in 1989. Just the at the sport not all sierras.
Customer Chris Cannon says: Fleet side
Agent Elizabeth says: I would be happy to look into this for you. I am going to create a case and call an internal department to gather this information. Could you please provide your VIN, current mileage, phone number, and e-mail address?
Customer Chris Cannon says: *************. **********
Agent Elizabeth says: Please allow me 3-5 minutes to look into this for you.
Customer Chris Cannon says: Very little information is available on line for this truck.
Agent Elizabeth says: Thank you for your patience. I am going to reach out to the internal department now.
Agent Elizabeth says: The internal department is checking in to this. They stated it will be 2-3 minutes.
Customer Chris Cannon says: Ok thank you.
Agent Elizabeth says: Thank you for your patience. I do apologize for the wait. Unfortunately, we do not have the figures for the ST models. What I have found is that there were 69,786 C/K1500, 20,172 C/K2500, and 4,684 C/K3500.
Customer Chris Cannon says: I understand the Silverado sport in 1989 had a build of 5400.
Agent Elizabeth says: I would be able to call the internal department back and confirm this number if you would like me to check into the Silverado Sport?
Customer Chris Cannon says: Do you know where I could find more information on the Sierra St trucks
Agent Elizabeth says: I do apologize I provided you with all the information that our resources have available. You may be able to speak with a GMC dealership.
Customer Chris Cannon says: Ok thanks.
Agent Elizabeth says: You are welcome. Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
Customer Chris Cannon says: No but thanks

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

I will post more after I finish more work to the truck.
It has 309,000 miles on the motor and tranny and still runs great.

I just installed new upper and lower ball joints. Inner and outer tie rod ends. Pitman rod and control arm. The truck was still running on the original components.

It has the blue low back bucket seats that someone said didn't come factory in the 89s. Mine did.

I think you should go forward with an LS swap. If you're concerned with value or collectability down the road, just hold on to the original engine and trans. In my opinion though it would be a huge improvement doing an LS swap.
