Well tonight besides the stew I'm grilling up some chicken . It's a balmy 8° out my grill is covered in ice.

Re: Do you grill in winter
I do grill in the winter time.
But for me, it's not happening today. You are indeed a Trooper. It's 29 degrees here and I'm (out of propane) so I can't grill. From your picture I would say (I can't get the lid open)

Storm today wasn't to bad but the 1/2 inch of ice and 30 mph winds the trees and poles couldn't take it. Central Hudson power says 7 to 10 hours. But I always add 5 to that . Wood stove is cranking and its 71° in the house. Once I turn off the genny it will be about 64° in here in the am

Okay
Yes If I had no power I would use the grill for sure. Hope they get your power going soon.

Re: Do you grill in winter
All year 'round. Sometimes in the winter I have to search a bit to get the kind of charcoal I like, but when I do I stock up.

Re: Do you grill in winter
I use my Charcoal Grill more in the winter than the Gas Grill. I have a deck with a roof by the back door so it's handy.

Re: Do you grill in winter
We did ribs tonight on the grille. Man they where great. Wasn't bad until the sun started down now it's cold.
We had sunshine all day today first time in a week.

Re: Do you grill in winter
I grill and smoke all year around, doesn't matter the weather. I just get the ice off of my stuff the best I can to get it working and go to town.

Re: Do you grill in winter
I'll grill in the pouring rain. It makes no difference to me. I like good food. I guess that's what happens when you grow up hungry.

Re: Do you grill in winter
Did someone ask if I eat in the winter? If I'm not eating grilled food at least once a week I'm not eating. That charcoal has no problem making up for the 100 degree range in temp we experience in four seasons. Rain? Snow? Wind? Sleet? That's when I roll the 18"er up under the portico. The NW wind cuts right through that corner of the house, but I can duck back just enough (usually) to stay out of the blasting wind.
Such as last night, with this zero degree air blowing in out of Alberta that began yesterday afternoon. I wanted to do some Buffalo Wings and didn't get out to the store to replenish the olive oil. So I grilled them before baking in the sauce in the oven, rather than fry. It's healthier, right? If it was good enough for cave people it's good enough for me! The best part was, the woodstove had so many coals built up they were tumbling out the door. So I harvested some in the ash bucket, dumped in the grille, and threw the wings on instantly. As convenient as a microwave!

Re: Do you grill in winter
I like using lump hardwood charcoal on the webber kettle grill but sometimes the gas grill is a necessity.
We got power back around 1 am . So other than it 2° out it's all good.

Re: Do you grill in winter
I'm glad your power came back on. We never got ice here. Snow then rain
I looked at the thermometer this morning and it said w2e didn't have any degrees... zero, none, nada, nunya. I hung out all day, fed the stove and appreciated having good shelter... brutal wind! Cold harsh weather means good food. While people are running to the grocery store, I'm poking my head in the freezer and pantry to see how many carbs I can harvest. I made dark chocolate brownies last night, plenty left today. I had a London Broil in the crock pot all day today with Stubb's beef marinade, celery, carrot, onion, and potato. Made the house smell great!

Re: Do you grill in winter
Ooooooooooooh I've got it. My wife's the google queen I tell ya. She had the answer before I could open a window to search it.
Down here we just call it a round steak. Lots of good ways to fix it too.

Re: Do you grill in winter
We have round steak here, too. Top round, bottom round, eye round, and I don't know the differences I just know it was a big chunk of beef reduced for quick sale that was going in the crock pot.
That package said Bottom Round London Broil. I think it's the shape of cut. It was a rectangle... but fit my oval crock pot just fine!

Re: Do you grill in winter
Nice outside kitchen. Mmm tri-tips! Last evening I put a ham on the offset grille to warm it up. Just dump hot coals in and start to warm up. Stayed moist

Re: Do you grill in winter
If I'm not eatin' good I ain't livin'. If I'm making it I make sure I'm going to enjoy it. I can't cook so I fix up food with lots of flavor . Last night was strips of chicken I had in the freezer since last Feb. Figured it was their turn... been marinading (not while frozen) in Jamaican Jerk juice. To tell the truth I'm ready for some average so-so suppers. Translate that into "Someone elsde's cooking". Thing is, there's a good chance it would be better!!
