235 to turbo 350 adapter in 52 truck

this may have been solved before but i couldn't find the link for a 1952 truck that has a single motor mount in front and two mounts on the sides of the bell housing. is there an adapter that that mates a 235 with a turbo 350 and has 2 lower side mounts for the stock rear crossmember?

the car of the mid 50s with the 235 motor had 2 side mounts near the front of the block and one mount for a powerglide. question 2... will the motor front side brackets and mounts of the car easily adapt to the frame of my 52 truck and then switch the rear crossmember for a 350 automatic?

thanks, clem

Re: 235 to turbo 350 adapter in 52 truck

I looked and am not finding anything right off but a guy could build his own mount adapters that fit the bellhousing bolts of the trans and fit mounts on the crossmember..

There are plenty of turbo 350 to tri 5 adapters out there but i don't know if they can be adapted to the AD trucks easily enough.

This bolts between the trans and block on a V8 or between the trans and adapter on the six and that won't work in this case but if you took the idea and designed and fabbed some similar brackets that caught the bolts on the back side of the bellhousing it should work along with a rear mount for the trans. http://www.ebay.com/itm/SBC-BBC-Chev...pXD-~e&vxp=mtr

Re: 235 to turbo 350 adapter in 52 truck

I can't remember exactly but isn't there a set of 3 threaded bolt holes on each side of the 235 engine block that could be used for side mounts and then use the rear trans mount like usual on the turbo 350? of course you would have to fab everything up including a new rear trans cross member. I would do all that while the original engine and trans are sitting in the truck so the engine stays where it supposed to be. fab up some frame mounts with a standard engine rubber mount off something common to connect the dots between the engine brackets and the frame. just be aware that the old trans mount really took a lot of the twist out of the equation and the new side mounts will now be doing that job. they will have to be made strong enough to withstand the torque. you may want to make them as wide as possible to match the old bell housing width, if you have room.

Re: 235 to turbo 350 adapter in 52 truck

thanks for the links guys. i think i'm gonna go with the stove bolt adapter and use a 700R trans. i decided to use side motor mounts since my 235 is a 58 model from a car and use an aftermarket tranny crossmember.

really appreciate the help...

That will save you a lot of fuss and fight and side mount setups are readily available to hook it up if you don't feel like fabricating you own. I like dsraven's suggestion of installing the side mounts while the engine is in place now so you have it lined up exactly as it should be. That will make it a real simple job and you will know you have it right where you want it to
