Unhappy Fuel pump question

Hi folks,
Just got back from a 2 week vacation and had a hard time starting my truck. Normally it starts right up. I noticed there wasn't much fuel in the fuel filter so I used starting fluid and cranked it over quite a bit and finally it started. Drove into town and back and it started fine. Is this possibly a sign that the fuel pump is giving up the ghost because it seems to have let the fuel back out of the filter and I'm guessing the fuel in the bowls of the Edelbrock may have evaporated?
Thanks,

Tom

I have an Edelbrock on my CST and on my C20. They both seem to let the fuel evaporate if they sit. I've replaced both fuel pumps but the problem persists. I've just accepted the fact that I need to crank it over for about 5 seconds, pump the heck out of the throttle and repeat two or three times until it starts.

If you find a fix for this behavior, please let me know.

Re: Fuel pump question

If it ran fine after getting it started, it's not the fuel pump. If it takes a while to start after setting for a day it could be the fuel is draining out of the carb.

I agree to run it a couple of days and see if you still have to prime it. I've used to have a plastic filter and it never stayed full of fuel. I got rid of it years ago and now use a metal one that I replace every 6 months.

Yes it has always run fine but this was the first time I've let it set this long. The plastic fuel filter never fills up even when it's running. Seems like it should have more fuel in it but it still runs fine that way.

It's been a while since I had the plastic fuel filter (15 yrs?) but I do recall it never was full of fuel but the truck ran fine. Maybe someone else that has a plastic filter can check theirs.
