need 292 exh man gasket help

Looking for info on what kind of gasket to use on my 292 exhaust manifold. I replaced it once with one from napa, and it didn't last very long and im tired of the ticking. Need info on what to use. Maybe its warped. I need to get it off again and inspect it.

Are all the exhaust manifolds for the 6's the same? Mine has some cracks and am considering replacing it.

Re: need 292 exh man gasket help

As far as I know trey are all interchangable, but not the same exactly. There may have been some different bolt mount differences for choke heat shields, trhottle kickdown etc. I do have one or two extra manifolds aroiund here that could use a good home, and I even have access to a surfacing machine to make the mounting surface flat for you if that would help. Lemme know...

I also had problems with my 292 and the exhaust. Just had the intake and exhaust manifold bolted together and then machined. got a new gasket and problem fixed. Don't forget to tap the bolt holes, shot them with air, then loc-tite.

Re: need 292 exh man gasket help

I should have specified which gasket. I was talking about the gasket that is sandwiched between the intake and exhaust. I am wondering if the exhaust man. is warped and wont seal. I have some ideas. I have another 2 pc setup i think i will try to have surfaced. I am looking for which gasket material is best to use.

Try Remflex.com, I don't see the intake floor/exhaust-heat gasket BUT they have sheet pieces to cut your own custom shapes. Remflex are thick graphite impregnated gaskets.

I'm using one on the head to intake/exhaust.

Re: need 292 exh man gasket help

When mine blew -used a flat file to dress the surfaces and make sure they were flat. I did chase all the threads - used loctite with a new gasket( stock type ) and coated both sides with ultra copper . I've used this stuff on headers before and had to beat them off with a hammer.
