Re: How about some pics of 67-72 Burbans!

Here's a couple of pics of my 69 3/4 ton 'burb, it needs a new grill and bumper, I've straightened them up but they're creased and gnarly, needs a top hatch too , it's made of filler, newspaper and the latest thing i've found is expanding foam, there are some real Bodgers out there, If a hatch doesn't come up i'll probably make one as this one is totalled !

Re: How about some pics of 67-72 Burbans!

Thanks Kev2809- but
it needs lots of things- all new rubber, window runs and felts for glass, carpeting, second seat (hopefully from JimmyFloyd) door handles in and out, headliner etc. It has 307 4 speed. No PS or PB. I want to put both on. I have an automatic column, so I might do a 700R to make it a more comfortable summer cruiser. I have two pickups, a 66 and a 70, both with 4 speeds, so it would be nice to have a truck with an auto. I've got a 70 350 on a stand that needs freshening - might use that but the 307 in it runs great and doesn't use any oil so I don't have any pressing need. I guess just finish it and detail it out underneath and under the hood after doing the PS, PB, and auto.

Hey Average Joe ! hmm i'm not really digging the roof, I'll post it too you if you want ha ha ! everyone says it looks like a hearse too ,
I took the suburban to the European Drag racing finals at the weekend and slept in the back , there was a guy from belgium there in a '70 burb as well, hardly see old 'burbs here in England though but i met the owner and we talked about them for a few minutes, Suburbans bringing nations together !

Thats some evil looking footware she's got now Coalson01,
I looked at a '70 C10 panel today, needed the bottom 8" replacing but was really straight in the sides etc,
£2000 was the bit that put me off (about $3000 at the mo)

Re: How about some pics of 67-72 Burbans!

Dragsterbus, I thought that was a vinyl roof but didn't know for sure. That is cool that you used your burb as a motel. I cant wait until I get to "Camp out" in mine. I like your quote "Suburbans bringing nations together." That is so true. Especially industrialized nations and oil producing nations. I love my burb but I wish it got more than 8-9 miles per gallon.

Re: How about some pics of 67-72 Burbans!

Ha ha I get about 13mpg out of mine but our gallons are bigger than US gallons for some reason, Yes Camping out in it was great especially with Top fuel running and the first European 5 second pro mod run, Southern Comfort and good friends made it a good weekend too,
The vinyl roof is pure evil and is hiding something horrible, rain water was running in on sunday so it's going to have to come off so i can fix the roof, it's a shame cos the rest of the burb is great and i don't want it rotting out from the inside !

Re: How about some pics of 67-72 Burbans!

Those vinyl tops can definately cause some serious rust. I had an 84' Cadillac that had the a vinyl roof. If you pushed on the vinyl with your finger you could hear the rust crunching underneath.

I didn't know that there were different types of gallons. No wonder you alway's hear about a gallon of gas costing more in Europe.

Re: How about some pics of 67-72 Burbans!

A US gallon is 8/10ths of an imperial gallon , a gallon here is $7.92 !, A US gallon would be $6.68 approx here at the moment , It costs a lot to run the burb here, I'll probably put it on LPG which is half the price of gas , my old '92 C1500 ran on LPG and was great ! also going to gear it up a bit, the Eaton rear is impossible to get good ratios for so i'll probably get a 12 bolt or a dana ( got a 9" the right length though ! Hmmm)

Re: How about some pics of 67-72 Burbans!

WOW!! I can't believe a U.S. gallon is $6.68, over there. The highest it got here when gas prices went out of control was around $4.00 a gallon. Right now it is at $2.12 a gallon. There has been a small push in this country for a long time to use LPG but the problem is places here are so spread out and there is no fuel stations for it; so here you are very limited on where you can drive if you have that system.

Between the shipping fee's, import taxes, diffuculty finding parts, and high fuel costs my hat really goes off to you foriegn collectors. You guys truly are passionate about this hobby!! I really respect that.

Thankyou ! Yes it's a bit of a challenge but if it was easy everyone would do it, ha ha
We dream of $2.12 a gallon !

Re: How about some pics of 67-72 Burbans!

Well, not to stereotype Texas; but there are gas wells all over the place around here. That and the majority of refined fuel comes from right here in Houston so you could say were just close to the source. Of course I read in Time that oil rich countries in the middle east have gas for 35-50 cents a gallon!

I already posted pics of my burb a long time ago but I will re post it later along with my dads burb so you can see what were rolling in.

Re: How about some pics of 67-72 Burbans!

Some of my friends have been to middle eastern countries and it's true about the super cheap gas, we get taxed at around 75% on pump gas, maybe i should have an oil well in the garden ! Yes post some pics of the burbs, I'd love to see them

Re: How about some pics of 67-72 Burbans!

Dragsterbus, Sorry about such high taxes. We aeren't there yet but if Cap and Trade goes thru we will be getting closer to that. Anyway enough politics here is the picture of my suburban. It's a 72' big block 3/4 ton truck.

This one is my dad's. It is a 72 big block 1/2 ton.

Re: How about some pics of 67-72 Burbans!

Nice 'burbs ! i like the worn paint on your green one , are your wheels the later 16" , they look like mine which are off a 90's 8 stud truck, i found your thread with all your other burbs , Wow ! i'd love to get the 47-53 one thats been lifted by the roof and fix it up, we have major rust problems here and we usually have to replace the bottom 8" of most things, actually i'll take any of your collection thats going spare ! ha ha, keep up the good work !

oldiron,
good looking truck for sure. I just started restoring an origionally green & white 71 4x4 and i was wondering if that paint was an origional color also what size tires are you running on that thing ? perfect stance, not too big not too small

Re: How about some pics of 67-72 Burbans!

Dragsterbus, Thank's for the compliments. I used Mequiars swirl and scratch remover on the green suburban and the dull paint actually shined back up to look like new again. The only spots that look bad is where the paint is thin or gone like over the hood.

Yes the wheels that you see are later model 16"; although I am not sure what they are from. I still have all 5 original rims, and am waiting to see if I can get 16.5" tires for them. Looks like I can get them but I am not sure about price.

I agree with you about the 50 yellow suburban. I would patch the roof and fix that one up but my dad is afraid the body may be more twisted than it appears. Once again thank you for all the nice words!

Here's my new project. 1972 C20 Deluxe. Original 350/th350 is in process of being replaced with a new 454 putting out 520hp and 600+ lb torque mated up to a new th400 built to handle the engine. New Dana Axles, new 6" suspension lift bla bla bla. I'll post pictures as the work progresses. These pictures are right off the trailer.
