Hey Larry, A buddy of mine is planning an nv4500 swap into his 1988 2wd crew dually. I believe he has a 1996 gm unit. He is wondering if you can put a mechanical speedo gear into it so he can run the stock mechanical unit. Any guidance appreciated.

That is a good question. I don’t know for sure but I doubt it. All production vehicles with the NV4500 had electric speedos. There are gadgets you can by that are powered by the VSS and have a motor that runs the speedo cable. In fact, one of our members has one of those dealeos for sale.
