i just got my project but i have no papers on the truck. does anyone know how i can get them so i can get tags for it????

Each state has different requirements for titling vehicles. Check with the DMV.

ok thanks i got it from my wifes uncle and he never had papers on it. should get a bill of sale from him?

Yes a bill of sale will be helpful. Also list all numbers on the vehicle (what year is it?) and do a search here and see what others here have done. I still believe the DMV is the best place to get the information you need. I went to college in Memphis and have had a few run-ins with both the Tn. Highway Patrol and the DMV there. They never seemed to be real caring folks and I expect you may need to be stubborn and persistent in order to triumph in this.

one thing i have learned is spend a few dollars and get a "notorized" bill of sale written on a purchased form. most office supply places carry them. i usually include a photocopy of the sellers drivers licence. for some reason they seem to have a negative reaction to "crayon"

they have a company out of alabama or something like that and...

on paper it looks like you sell them the truck, they get it titled and such(alabama has weird laws) then they sell it back to you. ofcourse for a fee. Thats what Im going to have to go with my truck since I dont have any papers for it.

Last time I registered an old car here they only required a bill of sale and VIN number. Also consider getting the historical vehicle plate - cheaper and lasts longer if i remember.

If the truck has always been in TN the DMV should have it in the records under the VIN number. You might have to go to the last registered owner and get a affidavit that he no longer has an interest in the rig. If it has been a lot of years they will sometimes issue a bonded title that gives anyone with a legitimate interest the opportunity to protest the over a period of time, usually six months. They publish notice that you have applied for a permanent title and if no one steps forward it is issued at the end of the period. Here in Idaho I have found that the rural DMV stations tend to be more user friendly than the ones in Boise, especially if I show up in my weekend clothes and chat up the gals behind the counter a bit.

good idea. in wash. state they issue you a "bonded title" and in 30 years with dozens of bonded titles i have never had any problems,wait three years and they issue a title even if the thing has been sold numerous times before the 3 years time. when 3 years is up whoever has bonded title get bond lifted.

i called the shelby county clerks office today. they said if i didn't have a title they couldn't help me. so i'm gonna check with my ins. agent about a bonded title. the clerks office was no help at all.

Try google and Tennessee title dmv

Since vehicle titles are handled at a state level, this is specific to your state. This question comes up a few times a month.

There's also a user on chevelles.com named huffhuff I think that can also help. Try searching for his name there.

In Texas that is right but the county is the intermediary that handles the paperwork.
