seam sealer help
I am in the process of stripping all the primer and 17 layers of paint off of my 65 Suburban, and I noticed some type of sealer in the seams and where the rear quarter panel meets the door(see picture) What can I use to replace this stuff when I get done stripping the paint?

Why take it off? Has it cracked? Is is peeling? Is it otherwise in less than ideal condition?
If it is not in need of repair, then why take it off?

I've gouged into it a little while using a screwdriver, scraper and a putty knife to get the paint out from around the area. I thought with damaging it, it would allow moisture to get in.

Tightly adhered coatings are a perfect substrate to recoat with new primers and paints. Quit damaging the sealant and it will be just fine under your new paint... providing it's in good shape as it is.

I've used both SEM and 3M seam sealer, both work real well. If you are completely stripping, I'd dig out the old and reseal. The new sealers are much better than what was available when it was built. It'll be good for another 50 years.
