366 / 427 tall deck big block help ?

so i need a 366 for my dump truck gmc 7000 with air brakes . it has the water cooled air brake compressor on the driver side head .

i found a deal on a 366 with the same casting # heads #14092359 so looks like i am good there .

the block in mine is a # 364779 and shows up to 1990 year

the block in the engine deal is a #10069282 for 90-91 gen IV engine .

every thing looks good on the deal . clean gm parts reman engine with the tag glued on the block side showing .030 over bore and .010 / .010 crank and rods . said his father had it and just about 10k miles on it . before the truck was parted out he fogged it with marine engine fogging oil and loosened the rocker nuts to release pressure on the valve springs for storage .

this med duty stuff is kind of a black hole of info so this is why i am asking . and my old engine is so dead its only good for melt it the rest of the way down for scrap or a true boat anchor use i didnt kill it the last owner did .

guy seems real cool . has good solid answers . has a good rep on selling stuff .

whats your guys thinking on this deal ? thanks for the help and info .

Ever figure out what the difference was with water cooled compressor over non? Motor you listed sounds like a good deal if it will work with what you have....

I really doubt that GM made any changes to the old work horse engines. If it has bolt holes on the head then they should be the same as the old bolt pattern.

Re: 366 / 427 tall deck big block help ?

only almost sure thing i have found is the 2359 heads has the correct boss's and hole /thread size for the air brake compressor bracket to bolt up on it .

the price point on this engine i found and how clean it looks and gm reman tag on the block i cant go wrong on the deal i dont think .

lantz's recently had a 427 with the compressor on it for sale . took a trip down and it was JUNK . plugs all rusted in the heads / bolts with no hex left on them from rust / water down the carb & intake and carb was frozen shut . i walked away .

Re: 366 / 427 tall deck big block help ?

I don't know what year your original engine is, I have no way to decipher any of those numbers. I do know there was a change around 1988 when they went to fuel injection.

Is your original engine injected???

Some time in the past I compared intake gaskets between the carb'd engines and the 88-up throttle body'd engines, and the gaskets looked the same....but that doesn't mean everything.

Re: 366 / 427 tall deck big block help ?

carb truck not efi .

same casting # on my heads as the new engine i found heads and this seemed to be the big point of importance .

just the block casting was different . but at this point i will wing it and make it work .

this truck need to run and be used instead of rotting in my driveway . she is to clean not to be used . the engine i found is going to ship friday or monday i hope . i think i will even put it on a engine test run stand and see what i get before install maybe . . .
