Pic Thread: Me & My Truck(s) 2018

With summer gone and fall moving along into the holidays it has me looking back at what I did and where I went with my '72 this year. I was thinking it might make for an interesting thread for all to post bits about their year with their 67-72, preferably with pictures. A sort of 2018 yearbook for the year for 67-72s. It doesn't have to be chronological. Random is good. All year long there have been threads asking to see trucks hauling, trucks with this, or with that. We have posted pictures of what we are doing to our trucks, when we went somewhere in it, to show something someone needed pictures of. Here is the place to show them again in one thread encapsulating the year for 67-72chevytrucks.com

I went to some events with it, did some work with it, did some work on it, etc. They are a part of our life, so has life been with you and your truck?

I remember early in the year, still winter, there was a thread asking about covering a truck kept outside... the good/the bad. So I posted what I did for over winter outside parking

Probably (hopefully) the least interesting post I'll have. WooHoo! Pictures of a truck with a tarp!! Just showing anything goes, if it's related to your 67-72

I'll spice it up with these couple trucks that were for sale at Spring Carlisle

What’s the purpose of the tarp, stop leaking into cab?

Protects the cab/doors, the most important and vulnerable part of the truck. Same idea as carport or garage. Puts it under cover, but just the cab. Prevents leaks from developing. Also keeps leafs and pine needles from getting in the crevices. I hope to get a carport up soon.

I picked up a cap for the '72 just before Spring Carlisle

Nice looking truck! I need to put a tarp on mine in the summer. Sat out here until the dash cracked from the heat.

Those a 16 x 8" Wheel Vintiques 62s with 285/75-16 Goodyear Duratracs

Last spring it was cold at Carlisle. It got into the 20s at night. No one bought the jacket I was selling but they bought the toboggan! I wanted a picture of the truck at night up there but crazy ole Hanson wouldn't allow it

Re: Pic Thread: Me & My Truck(s) 2018

I was going to post that, should have. Goes with the other info. It's lifted 4". The wheels and tires would fit w/o a lift but this gets it up off the tires sittin' healthy. I did the lift for a set of 35/12.50-16.5 BFGs with 9.75 wide aluminum slots but tires had aged out. That looked good but tires could rub up front. I would have done a 2" lift for the 285s just to give a little lift, but I'm glad it ended up being 4". 2" may not have shown much at all and 4" isn't too high

Not much interest in this idea, ey? It's the weekend, let's get this thing going. We all talk about the board isn't like it used to be, good tight community of fellow GM Truck nuts. I see what they mean. Well, I haven't given up on that. I'll be back with more, but would rather see someone else post up first. I didn't start this to be about me.

This is when I went to see it before actually pulling the trigger on it, that day it was raining, bought the truck what is called 'sigh unseen' on the bottom of it, took the sellers words on and do not regret doing so, last month took it for rust proofing and looked underneath of it, everything look brand new, got few leaks coming from engine block(original motor and transmission) have to see where it is coming from over the winter dead season.

Just got my first GMC! It's a 72 K2500 I bought out of southern Oregon. It's a little rough but in good overall condition. This is the first truck Ive had that still has rockers and cab corners intact!

This is also my first 4x4 and I am going to have a lot of questions for you Tim.

Re: Pic Thread: Me & My Truck(s) 2018

2018 was a big year for my K1500. Finished about 95% of build in Jan and took truck to "World of Wheels" in Feb at Indiana State Fairgrounds. Had never driven truck(except on driveway), so we trailered it to show. Spent most of spring and summer trying to finish remaining 5% of build and cure some lagging issues. Only was able to drive truck about 500 miles in 2018. In Sept., I took truck to 4WD Jamboree in Indy. Jamboree was fun, but my K1500 looked like a toy or toddler compared to the lifted beasts at this show. However, the K1500 was very well received and everyone seems to have a story about this era of truck.

Lift is 2" tuff country springs front and back. Tires are 32x11.50 Cooper Discoverer A/T. I like the look of the lift, but it's difficult to get in and out of truck. Thinking real hard about lowering truck next summer. I wanted truck to sit just slightly higher than stock, the 2" seems more like 4" to me.

I'm in! The year started with the old 305 expired with a bad main bearing. That virtually nonexistent oil pressure caught up with me. Got a new 350 installed with a new radiator, 7 blade clutch fan & shroud, battery tray and other things I don't remember now. Back on the road in May. Aligned the new drive line I installed the week prior to the 305 giving out. I took the noisy rear end in for new bearings and seals. Discovered the carrier was breaking apart. The 305' s monster torque. Now I have a new carrier with 3.73 instead of 3.07's. I dropped the fuel tank to fix the leaking sender.

Re: Pic Thread: Me & My Truck(s) 2018

Busy year. After 2600 miles the new engine's valve train failed. Pulled the heads and the shop reworked them. Back on the road and suffered a couple of electrical failures. One at home with ever exciting smoke from under the dash and the other one on the highway. Complete loss of ignition. Whoo hoo! Replaced the worn out generic fuel pressure regulator. Had to replace the brand new motor mounts I installed with the new engine. The Napa ones just weren't up to the torque of the new 350. I finally figured the major air leak for the bags was from inside of one of my new guages. So in the next week I will replace it and the air compressor. It takes 15+ minutes to come up to pressure and that's just too long.
For complete details on all these items and more. Tune in to the WMB thread below.

OK enough about me. Who's next?

I'd say 2018 was a good year for you. All set for next year, too. I'd say your truck is 4" over stock and no less. My tires are right about 32" (285/75-16) and my wheels are 8" with a 4" lift for comparison.

You've done a nice selection of changes on that already sweet truck.

Just looks like different wheels to me. Just being a jerk. That's like a whole other truck under the skin this year. Nice got nicer.

Drove it down to the local car show in September. I didn’t enter the truck. Mostly just drive it in to town for errands. Just 2 miles to town. I’ve had it for sell and a guy got real close to my price a couple months ago. A friend of mine says “there’s always another one out there”. I think that it may not be so anymore. But, what do I know?
I think you have the perfect keep around for when you need it/enjoy it when you do trucks. Always more out there? You already have one. If you don't need the money, why sell it. Just start it and pull it out every so often. Do you have a cat?

I read all the things some of you have done to your trucks this year and am realizing I did nothing to mine. I did the annual stuff before it hits the road and one oil change mid-summer but that's it. I hit the road with a good bit of fresh work the year before.

I did a lot of work earlier this year for a friend's place. It's a farm house on some nice land. It's all 2-lanes here to there across the county SW to NE.

I did a lot of interior work. She had me do a cool kitchen counter top. We got this reclaimed white oak. The guy said the tree, that the beam the boards were made from, was 250 years old by the rings and it came from a 250 year old building. I felt privileged to be able to work with it. A little nervous!

Re: Pic Thread: Me & My Truck(s) 2018

I did a few things to my truck this year. The big one was removing the plaid bench seat then installing ( not quite finished yet ) my buckets/console. Next the tilt I bought 18 months ago was installed and I picked up this totally rebuit 700R4 which plan to get installed this coming spring. There is a big local Car show here every June and the first door prize is a completely rebuilt with upgrades Chevy small block and the second was this 700R4 redone by a local reputable shop. The winner of the 700R4 didnt need it so he put it on Facebook for sale and i bought it. I have factory 373's in my truck so the 700R4Name: IMG_5225.jpg

The buckets look great. The 700R will be a nice addition.
