Drove her on the road for the first time in 2 years tonight!

Drove her over to the Shell station for a fill up of tasty 90 octane ethanol free, then stayed long enough to wash down the truck using their wind shield washer fluid and sponges.

Because of my back/neck issues I couldn't do wrench turning, BUT, walked my wife through her first ever hands-on car repair work. This was the shake down trip/test run after today's efforts:

* gas tank/sending unit
* refurb oem filler neck and install lmc rubber filler and vent hoses
* rubber lines from sending unit to fuel lines
* rubber line from fuel line to fuel pump
* fuel pump
* carb base and air cleaner gaskets
* nos gm reman monojet carb (1982 rebuild)
* nos air cleaner assembly
* ignition coil
* ignition module
* vacuum modulator
* distributor cap
* distributor rotor
* spark plugs
* plug wires

Needs the vacuum lines freshened up, some other things... has a bad habit of dropping rpm to stall point if you let off the pedal entirely at a light or around a corner, but ran better than it has since the day we got it.

That's a good feeling, isn't it? Recently drove mine on the road after several years also. Had it towed from place to place for a long time while I rebuilt/swapped trans, rear, driveshafts, carb, wiring, front suspension, tank, rear suspension, bumper, lights traction kit,...

Yes that first time on the road was a different experience. had to learn to drive the truck, get used to the way things act under different conditions. I was cautious at first, baby steps while looking for rattles, vibrations, clunks, clanks and other possible indicators that maybe I forgot to tighten a bolt somewhere.

I have about 150 miles on mine now @ about 10 mile a day. Sure is a great feeling to finally be running the truck after so many changes.

I've been wanting to move more out your way, just a question of getting this place together and finding somewhere else (with space) to move onto. weve been known to head up to the olive garden out there every few weeks, that'll probably keep on being in a mustang though.

I don't facebook very much, is the club more of an online thing or somewhere people coordinate cruise meet ups or bbqs and such?.

Certainly is, even though it hasn't had as much work as yours. The goal this weekend was to get it safely functuonal, while following my method of replacing entire mechanical systems at a time (no repeat work here).

We drove it from time to time the first 2 years after we bought it to keep things fresh. However, it never was right and eventually the ignition system degraded to the point it would skip and buck under even light load while driving. Got parked until we finally found the air cleaner to be able to replace everything at once, then MADE time to get to it.
