finally got a burb

after wanting one for many years, I finally found one I could afford. Its a 72 and not in too bad shape except for the surface rusted hood. I need to figure out what seats work will work well since the ones in it are trashed real bad. It has a 92 model 350 and 700R4. This truck was originally sold to the Girl Scouts in Ft Worth Texas according to the protect-o-plate and I think I am the third owner since then. Cant wait to get it all back together and on the road again.

Re: finally got a burb

Looks like a really nice solid one! I did things the wrong way, bought one I loved to drive but did no research. Found out too late the floor and body mounts were shot and were difficult to impossible to replace, at least for an amateur. The '70 I just bought was the one I wish I would have bought ten years ago. Waiting for the right one is absolutely the right way to go. If you are patient enough (I am not).

Welcome!

Nice looking Burb. If you wash it in CLR then most of that surface rust will come off. Google it and you can see what some guys have done. http://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/sh.../post/1712505/ I actually prefer the original patina look on some of the older vehicles.

Re: finally got a burb

awesome burb.

my dad had a 72 just like that back in the 80's....same factory short arm tripod mirrors. his also the cab lights (saved for my 72 burb). i just need to find a set of mirrors like yours since my truck has the very unusable sport mirrors. totally awesome that your truck already has a newer 350 and an OD trans...perfect for modern day use. if you plan to haul with your burb and not going to lower it, i'd suggest standard 3/4 ton rear coils (a factory option on all 1/2 ton trucks) my dad did this on his burb 25 years ago because the original 1/2 ton coils were sagged after only a decade or so. burbs have more body weight out the back anyway and really need the extra capacity. another trick my dad did was make extenders with a piece of chrome pipe (same dia. as mirror arm) and a longer so he could see better for towing our old camper.

just get that truck cleaned up and enjoy her!

Re: finally got a burb

Ever since reading about this, and how it was originally purchased by the girl scouts. You should name her "cookie" or something of the like...
Not being mean, I think it's cool!

my apologies to anyone who is offended, but that line is funny if you take it for face value if don't read into it too deep.

Re: finally got a burb

Well, calling a burb "thin" seems a little funny.
All the other GS cookie names don't really fit either - unless you are of Samoan heritage...

What are your plans for the burb?

Killer burb, can't wait to see what you have planned for it. I've already got a mental picture in my head if I owned it.

Re: finally got a burb

When I got it the trans was in the back and the motor was sitting on the mounts but nothing hooked up so I haven't been on the board much lately but I have been busy working on it. I got it cleaned up pretty good and all back together. The motor sounds great and the 700r4 is fantastic. It is now registered, inspected, has all new lenses, and wearing a new set of tires. I have been cruising it around a little and lovin it.

Re: finally got a burb

bought 3 of these today. They are brand new Dodge Ram rear seats. I will need to get creative to mount them but should look good in the burb.
