Thumbs up Evolution Miter Saw Review

I thought I'd give my review for the Evolution Rage 2 Miter Saw in case anyone out there is considering buying one. I got mine a year ago, and I don't use it frequently, but I do use it heavily when I use it. Today I made upwards of 50 cuts in 1½" 1/8 angle, 1" square tube, 1/2 square tube, and 1X½" channel. The saw performed flawlessly, as it has every time I've used it. I've cut ½ inch plate with it and it's had no problem.

I did buy the dedicated steel cutting blade for it, but even so it was over $150 less than the nearest competitor. It makes clean cuts that need little or no cleanup before welding (probably what I appreciate most about it) and the cut ends aren't even hot. It's quieter than my old saw, which was an abrasive 10" saw, although when you're cutting steel "quiet" is a relative term, and I advise never cutting without hearing protection.

The miter fence is sturdy, but it's definitely nothing fancy. The built-in clamp is functional but not great, but it does provide enough clamping force.

Overall, I love this saw for how easy it is to use and how clean it leaves the cuts. I give it 4 out of 5 stars, the miter fence and clamp being the only reason I don't give it 5.

Re: Evolution Miter Saw Review

Love one someday. I so hate the abrasive dust cloud saw, it sits and sits. Use my band saw mostly.

I've thought about a steel blade for my 12" 15 amp Ryobi saw

Check the RPM before you buy it. The RPM on my old abrasive saw was too fast for the steel blade I put on it and wore the blade out pretty quickly.
