New to North Texas

My son drove his Camaro and I drove my 67 SWB from Burbank, CA to Allen , TX this week. Both cars did well, with the Camaro getting between 17 and 20 MPG and the truck getting 12-13 mpg.

Monday, 14 SEP, Burbank, CA

Tuesday afternoon, 15 SEP, Burbank, CA (Lancers parking lot). Getting ready to leave

Somewhere in AZ

Somewhere in New Mexico

Texas

Little Elm, TX, site of my future shop with a small attached house

We'll be living in Allen until we get the house built in Little Elm, which I hope to have completed by next Summer. My son will be attending Allen HS as a senior. We were disappointed to learn that they do not have an auto shop or metal shop class. He was fortunate to land a spot in a floral arrangements class to satisfy a fine arts requirement, though...

Better hurry, I'm going back in October to get the stuff the movers won't ship and to pick the cars up.

Thank you. It was a relief once we cleared down town and got off the freeway.

Hutch, we're staying at a hotel in Allen until OCT 5, when we can move into our house.

Re: New to North Texas

Welcome to the area! I'm right next door to Allen, in Plano. I bought my 72 GMC Sierra Grande in Allen about 2 months ago.

Great seeing those old cars on a road trip! No problems driving that far?

When you say site of your future shop, will it be a business or just a personal garage shop for your own use?

Asking because there is a lot of work I can't do on my truck due to living in an apartment where I am not allowed to really tear into it, so I'm looking for a local place that knows these trucks...

Since you're new to the area, just a heads-up..... Good Guys show is the weekend of Oct 2-4 @ Texas Motor Speedway as is Cars & Coffee (Plano TX @ Classic BMW).

Fortunately no problems on the drive. My truck was a daily driver and did fine in L.A. traffic. We recently swapped a 350/4 spd (MY6 - overdrive) and a jeep steering box into my son's Camaro. It's a pretty mellow cruiser.

I will be building a shop for personal use. Hope to have it done by next Summer. I don't know any local shops, but I bet if you started a thread, someone could refer you.

Unfortunately, I will be going back to CA that weekend. The movers are coming on the 5th and 6th. I have to get a uhaul and move whatever they won't ship.

I was told there was a Saturday AM cruise-in in the McKinney area hosted by the morning maniacs. My son and I are going to try to track it down this Saturday.

Welcome from slightly south of FW. Recent CA refugee also... Still getting settled in, interested in those swap meets as well! That's probably where we'll all eventually run into each other, hovering over a set of bucket seats...

Re: New to North Texas

Thanks for the links. I went to every Pomona and Long Beach swap meet that I could. At Pomona, I mostly went to look at the cars. Long beach was good for an occasional deal when someone was cleaning out the garage.
