Garage costs?

I may have found a house and trying to figure what it would cost to build a shop. I'm thinking 30x40 or 30x50 metal building on concrete. Any ideas or examples? Thanks

prices are different everywhere. i would do a google search on the steel buildings and then call around local and get concrete prices

I had a 30x40 metal shop built last month.

Concrete, two 12 foot wide roll up doors (that's wide by the way, most are 10 foot), one 3 foot walk-in door, one 4 foot walk indoor, fully insulated, with opening/ closing ridge vent on roof.

Total price turn key was 14900 bucks.

Full 200 amp electric service with (8) dual 8-foot low temp industrial flourescent lights, (5) fifty amp 220 plugs for my welders, a dedicated 50 amp 220 plug for the air compressor, quad 110 outlet boxes with 4 plugs every 10 foot along the walls, and plugs outside for working in the driveway was another 2000 dollars.

I did some extra detail work sealing up some areas, extra caulk and stuff for another 100 bucks.

Total price 17000 dollars.

Not regretting a single cent of it either.

It took years of blood, sweat, tears, and scrappin for every cent of side line job money to finally get it. I didn't want to finance it, so I had to do the old fashioned deal and work 2 jobs for it.

Hey Tex, i was figuring the buildings would be alot higher than that. You got your concrete floor poured and the building for 14900??? You mind if i ask if your building was a name brand and if you have any pictures? I was guessing about 10,000 to get the footer and slab poured and about an additional 15,000 (minimum) for the building.

Ohio, it's all done right. My buddy is an IBEW certified bad boy electrician. He's a master with conduit and such. It would pass inspection in any area without a second glance.

Low69CST, that's typical price around here. I took estimates from three potential metal building builders and they were all within 400 dollars of each other. The market is tough, and they have to be competetive.

It was a complete turn key deal. I supplied a flat building site, he did the rest. It took one day for concrete, one day for framing, and a final day for finish up. We had Thanksgiving holiday in there, so it actually took longer, but only three working days total. From start to finish, it took 2 weeks, with 5 days off for Thanksgiving, plus a normal weekend too.

I gave him 14900 dollar cashier's check and he handed me the keys. I was totally hands-off on the deal.

I'll get pictures in the next two days when I'm home and post them on Thursday when I work again.

I have a 30x40 Post frame building. I have around $14k-$15k in it total with electric service and concrete. In this I also poured about 900 sq outside. Concrete was 3500psi with fiber and rebar. Insulation was included as well.

Wow Kevin thats a great deal you got, I just got 2 bids for a 40x80 14 foot tall with two 10x12 doors and one walk in, and a wall in center to separate working area from storage. Building alone bids were $21K and $27K, no insulation either plus another $4000 to concrete half of it, no bids on electrical. I ended up buying this old blacksmith shop 36x52, wood floor in it though, but its better than what I did have.

The one I have still sitting on the drawing board is this

24 x 45 Brick, A/C and Heat, 200 amp, 20 110 outlets, 4 220 outlets,
8 windows, 4 ceiling fans, 1 entry door, 2 8' garage doors, bathroom.

It has to be brick to match my darn house, per the wife the price I
was given by the builder who built my house is $30K, sounds like alot
but my property is on a slope and I will have retaining walls also

Mine is not as large. 24x30 with a 15x18 overhang 2 10'ft roll-up doors and 1 walk in door. The door's are on the west and south walls. I went with a spray in industrial type insulation, which the builder didn't offer . I also helped with the electrical portion (means I carried all the tools and heavy crap). The building, slab, and assembly was just over $10,000. I did most of the prep work to the lot myself. The prep work can add alot to the cost if you have to pay folks to do it. The spray insulation is a lot more expensive, but I like it more than the traditional stuff. I also extended my blacktop driveway to the shop. All total, I have around 15,000 into the shop. This is the only picture I have at work.

I Just Had One Built About Three Weeks Ago. This Was In Somerset Ky. It's A 32' X 50' Metal Building. This Is An Engineered Building & Is Post & Beam Construction. The Walls Are 10' & It Has A 10' X 12' Slider In Each End (so I Can Drive Through It). & A 36" Steel Enterance Door. It's Post & Beam Construction So There Are No Trusses (all Rafters) & The Inside Ceiling Height Is 14' In The Middle. The Building Was $13,000 ,cement & Was Almost $5,000 . I Had An Awful Lot Of Excavating Done, & Had Almost $4500 In Dirt Work, But I Had Almost A Mile Of Road Cut In Around The Perimeter Of My Property. Depending On The Terrain, Most People Won't Incurr 1/3 Of The Excavating Costs. The Building Constuction Co. That I Went With Is "dandi Systems" Out Of Woodburn Ky. & They Were Great. 1-800-282-7799 . I Would Highly Recommend Them. I Was 2300 Miles Away In Nv. While Const. Was Going On In Ky. & Not A Sigle Hitch Or Problem Came Up. They Quoted Me A Price Before Katrina, & Never Once Mentioned That The Price Of The Materials Went Up After. You Call There & Talk To The Owners, & The Owner Was Foreman On The Construction Crew. They Were The Kind Of People That You Hope To Deal With, & I Have Only Talked To Them Over The Phone & Never Met Them Face To Face. John

Just a money comparison and something to keep in mind. The local zoning in my area played a big part in my garage decisions. My township didn't permit that type of construction. Besides, my lot is sloped pretty steep so even if it were permitted a metal building on a slab wouldn't work well. I needed to build into the side of the hill.
Mine is a concrete block 40'x30' with 10' ceilings and a 16'x30' second floor workshop with inside stairs and outside access to the workshop off an upper driveway. I installed hydronic heating in the floor.
I did the escavation and all the construction myself and had slightly over $25,000 in materials. It took over 2 years to build it.

Gotcha...I grew up west of the burgh....out by the Original airport in Allegeny county, West Allegheny Indians...hooop-teee-dooo. Guess I'll have someone else to shout at on my next pilgramage back to the PA land.

There's also another door on the back wall for flow through ventilation in the summer.

Total cost including lights, and a ton of electrical trinkets inside was 16900.

I had a 24 x 48 pole barn built about 9 years ago for about 10K. It has 4 x 6 posts every 12 feet with engineered trusses to support the roof system. It has metal sides and roof and is fully insulated. I had an 18' door in front and an 8' door in the back. At the time this was the cheapest route to go. During construction I had the plumbing stubbed out in the rear corner for a bathroom. I highly recommend doing that, even if you don't finish it right away. The wife will appreciate it too when you and your buddies don't trounse through the house to use the can and to wash all that grease off you hands. Good Luck!
