Which aftermarket tach?

I want to add a tachometer to my 91 suburban. Is there one that I can swap over using junk yard parts? Should I just buy an aftermarket one? I have a 350 with a 4l80e with a compushift 1.

Re: Which aftermarket tach?

I've got an aftermarket tach in now but will be going through my interior this summer and this one has my eye. Might have to try it.

Re: Which aftermarket tach?

With mine being a 91 I have an electronic speedo...right? Do any of the trucks/blazers come with a gauge cluster that has the tach and could bolt right up to my existing wiring?

Yes, you have what I think is called the VSS speedo, but this replaces the fuel gauge and comes with the tachometer wire. I don't think this affects the speedo function, does it?

Re: Which aftermarket tach?

I'm sure it wouldn't. It's a little pricey though. If there was another truck or blazer that had a gauge cluster that would fit I could go to the junk yard and get that cluster much cheaper.

Those days are long gone. Although you might get lucky. Tach clusters for these trucks are about the only thing rare about them and you have the most rare combo of all.
