custom autosound radio - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Having trouble with my custom audosound radio (USA6). It worked for quite some time and then started working intermittently. Finally it stopped working at all with no sound and no digital display. The green backlight comes on and I can hear the pop when the radio turns on. Also can hear a hum through the speakers when the volume is turned up. I checked all the connections and fuses to ensure connectivity and no shorts. The ground was checked. Even tried a jumper to the battery neg with no change. Any thoughts on what could be wrong would be appreciated.

You are not alone. I have read several posts that refer to the radio you have. I don't expect I'll be getting one of them. Make cutting the dash seem like the only real alternative to an NOS item.

I might go the glove Box Route.
i was interested in one of those radios too heard a few neg about them.

My autosound radio isn;t the greatest either- but I'm not real big into tunes, so I don;t worry. If you really like to listen to your music, I'd steer clear and cut the dash.

cant help much but if it has the cd changer it might not hurt to run the radio & the changer grounds to the same location (amps also). A ground loop will sometimes occur if you have multiple grounds & are known to cause motor noise. No idea about the popping though. Its definatly a connection, but not sure if its external or internal. Good luck with it...

Based on the comments, I think I need to look into replacing the unit with something else. At least I'm not the only one having problems

I guess I'll give tech support a try and see if they have any advice. Although I doubt it. I'll let you know what they have to say.

you know i have heard nothing but low opinions of their products and for the price they charge you would thing they would be descent

Thats what I thought too. Mine just fills a hole in the dash now. I bought a Panasonic and put in in my console I built and it works great. I'm not a huge audio buff, but Autosound Sux!

I had the EXACT same problem. Those custom auto radio are terrible. Got a new tuner and mounted it in the glove, and bought a repeater to use the remote with the glove door closed. I'm going to mount an original AM radio back in and I'll be able to point the remote at it so it will be kind of cool.

I also had one that just sounded terrible. I was very dissapointed in the sound for the cost! Sold it with my truck and was glad to see it go! I am now in the same situation with my current project and need some tunes, not sure what I am going to do yet, probably cut the dash and put in a CD player.
