How about something like the monstrosity that was very solidly welded to the front of my 72? About 300 pounds of 3/8-inch plate and round stock. Maybe this is a good example of what NOT to do. I'm still cutting bits off now and then! LOL!

I've got a 6" pipe bumper with a 1/2" plate bridging the the frame rails on top so the winch is mounted behind the bumper.

Placing the winch behind the bumper sounds tons better than what the PO did to mine! LOL!

I won't take credit as the previous owner did this.
It's a Warn 9000 mounted behind the factory bumper.

This pic shows the large C-channel that the winch is mounted to. Then the C-channel is bolted to the frame.

$1000 in Reno. I have this one that incorporates factory bumper (powder coated black). Warn winch with remote and toggles in cab. Works great. Matt

Home built, this setup on my Jimmy uses all factory holes with lots of reinforcement behind. The winch has pulled this truck through lots of snow.
