Re: start up

this ogre would just clean up the points with 1000 grit, charge the battery, add fresh gas and crank on it
you might want to pull the plugs to see what shape they're in when you parked it and change the oil

Re: start up

I'd positively say clean the gas tank and lines before considering starting it.

Clean fuel system, fresh gas, change the oil and filter and as Ogre suggested pull the plugs and crank it over long enough to see oil pressure build up on the gauge. A few squirts of Marvel Mystery oil in the cylinders before you crank it over might be a good idea too to give the rings some lube and free up any that might be sticking.

Changing the plugs for fresh ones just depends on what they look like when you pull them out.

The carb may need to be rebuilt with a fresh kit in it but I wouldn't worry about that until I had it running. They don't like sitting either.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: start up

Don't be discouraged if it doesn't run well right away. Rings can really stick in motors that sit too long; sometimes it takes them awhile to free up. I once bought an SBC that hadn't run for 5 years. At first it missed and smoked. My mechanic told me to take it up to the mountains and run it hard back and forth over the passes. He was right: the more I drove that motor, the better it ran.
