Aftermarket engine crossmember?

I’m weighing out options for the front end on our ‘64, and I keep going in circles. The goals are: lower it (around 5”), disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, and is like tubular control arms for alignment adjustability (and geometry). I was leaning towards the TCI pro touring IIFS, or the No Limit Wide Ride IFS, but both are a chunk of change at once. It’s ok from an overall budget perspective, but I sold this project to my wife as “a little along”. It’s going to be a daily driver for my 9 year old when he gets to that point. It’s a father/son project until then.

That being said, I’m looking at options to spread the cost over some time. I could use Performance Online for the parts, and that’s all doable while meeting the goals, but I’ve never seen an aftermarket crossmember with improved clearance over stock. The IFS kits that I mentioned above both include a new crossmember with much better clearance. Does anyone have a source for just the crossmember? If so, then piecing it together may be the way to go. If not, I’ll have to shift my attention to another part of the truck for a bit. Just dropped $3k on an LY6 and 6L90E, so the boss lady has requested that I slow the spending for a bit. Any input is appreciated! Thanks!

Yea, Porterbuilt. I took 3 years to get everything. But only place at that time did anything for X frame trucks.

Just fyi the motor moves forward and up 2" so plan on high hump and electric fan

Thanks, guys. I guess I just need to hit Nate up to see what my purchase options are. I was changing over to electric fans anyway, but good to know on the trans clearance under the hump. This 6L90E is pretty big, so I was already figuring that I’d have clearance issues.

why do you need a new front end if you are only doing a 5 in drop?

I don't know that I "need" a new front end. It just seems to be the way to go, since I hit the magical number of $4000 regardless of whether I piece it together (control arms, brakes, R&P steering, shocks/springs, etc.) vs. just going with a complete solution.

I generally prefer parts that were all engineered together. I've mixed and matched before, and there are usually compromises somewhere. For even money, I'd rather use the same vendor for everything. The extra clearance under the aftermarket crossmembers is pretty appealing as well. I don't like hitting crap in the middle of the road, because I couldn't clear it!

We used a No Limit wide ride and it was very simple to set up.

I can not tell you how great Rob@ No Limit is to work with.

That sure is a pretty front end! No Limit was pretty high up on my list. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read the Joe Touring series of posts on their site (way before I ever bought this truck). Good to know that they are so good to work with. I don’t think I could really go wrong with No Limit, Porterbuilt or TCI. I have to constantly remind myself what the goals are for this truck (essentially modern handling and ride quality, reliability and safety). I keep letting my ideas creep into the realm of what I would do for me, not what I should do for my son to get good use out of it.
