painting questions

Thinking of painting my truck. It is in pretty good shape, just 2 deep scratches on the bed side and a few dents.

I plan to remove the bed so I can spray the back of the cab. Would like to paint the jambs as well.

The clear coat is not peeling. I want to know if I should sand off the clear coat, do the body work, and spray over the original paint. If so, how do I sand off the clear and how do you tell when it is gone? Or do I sand and prep the clear, do the body work and spray.

It is 'light quasar blue' and I plan to spray it the same color, or close to the same. The truck is a '93 Silverado, short bed.

Comments are appreciated.

Re: painting questions

Take off any loose scaling paint and scuff the rest.
Read the technical data sheet on the product(s) you want to sue, they will tell what grit to use.
Taking off "tightly adhered" paint is not required.
