Just the chains. Are they there?

'58-'59 Fleetside chains are different than '55-'57. I don't know about '58-'59 step sides but I'd guess they're the same as prior years.

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache

Yes sir they are, I saw something about Pivots and assumed there was something more. The Tail gate only has one small rusted through hole other then that I believe its savable. Two dents on the top left but that won't hurt anything

The Steps on the bed are taken off, but they have some rusted holes on the edges, I'd like to save them

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache

Hey Schrum
Let's see that list!
I'm sure the guys with more experience will guide you once they see it.
i.e. "before you get a gas tank, make sure you want to keep it in the cab. For about the same price you can put one under the bed.
Just take a picture of it.

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache

Wow, a list! I think you did a good job getting title in your name as #1!

Try to break it down.

Get title transferred.
-----Call and find out what documents you need
-----Go to courthouse with all required doc
Get truck running.
-----Pull out generator
-----Rebuild generator
-----Install generator.
-----Obtain replacement filter
-----Replace glass gas filter with replacement.
Body work
-----cab
----------sandblast
----------body work
----------etc...
-----bed
----------sandblast
----------etc....
Etc.....

It will help keep you focused and seem productive when you can mark it off the list.

The Truck has already been Sandblasted and Primed

I need a Title to go to the Tag Office and some $$$ to get the actual Title

Now that comment is priceless

Did the truck come with a title? Did the seller sign it over? Do you have a bill of sale? Those are the only documents you probably need to apply for a title along with some money. If the truck did not come with a title it may be a whole different ballgame.

Schrum, When was the truck blasted and primed? Was the primer sealed? How long has it been sitting outside in that condition? Has it been rained on regularly? These are questions I'm asking just because even though the trucks has been blasted/primed does not mean that it won't rust again. The primer is not a sealing paint. It is porous and will absorb moisture/rust again.

Those glass filters are pretty cool, but like others have said, they can break.
So... did you make that list yet?
Nick, at your age it is better that you have to scrounge and make due with what you can find. You will learn more that way. When you are older you can buy new stuff when you have the extra money. Glad you got a list.

Get this done right away!

If you wait too long, the DMV will give you a hard time if the PO properly signed the title over to you...if he didn't, get him to do that TODAY!

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache

Everything will be taken care of.I know what I need to get the New Title.Yes, I have the Title that he gave me.

Its been sitting outside for a year or so I think, some rust has came back through on the bed sides, I'll re-sandblast them and all the places that need it again

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache

Becareful on continous sandblasting the more you blast it the more the metal warps because of heat friction you end up with a uselees panel.

Tell us more about this sandblaster? We are always looking for better tools.

I have a cheap blast cabinet and it is as slow as anything. I have not done anything large or used any different types but it sure does seem slow.
I just end up sanding my stuff.
