How rough does your rough country lift ride?

I'm looking for a inexpensive 4" lift for my K5 and the prices are pretty good on these rough country lifts. I've always run tuff country lifts and have been real happy with the way the ride, but I'd rather save $300 if the rough county ride is ok. Any input?

I think there is a reason they call them rough country. I don't know where it is now, possibly on CK5, there is a spring rate table to some popular front springs. I think RC had the highest spring rate. I think I have a set on the front of my crew, and had them on my 89 when I first SAS'd it. It rode OK, but had a 454 to weigh the front down. I'd rather spend the money on a softer front spring, or swap in a set of 52s and keep the overload. Only have to move the front hanger.

i got a rough country on my 84 k10...it rides like a tank...i ordered a 4 inch and they gave me a six....but they gave me 4 inch shocks...need to get the six inch shocks...might take some of the ruffness out of it.

Horrid! I put my 4" on my 85 1/ton years ago and wasn't bad at first, but I was also younger. But now it rides real bad. My front springs where also over flexed and now warped. If I buy another set of lift springs, I'm getting tuff country ez-rides.

I thought I read somewhere that they might have softened the spring rate sometime recently. Everyone that gives their opinion on the ride quality is always someone that had them years ago. The spring rate chart was several years ago too. Has anyone bought Rough Country springs recently?

I can't say anything about there truck lifts but I put there 4" lift on my old jeep a while back and it was garbage. You couldn't pay me to run something with there name on it again. Within a month I had sagging springs and not all of them... shocks rotted out in a year. They claim to have a new spring supplier but I doubt its any better.

My neighbor put a 4" rough country lift on his half ton short bed less than a year ago and the ride sucks to say the least. I used a set of turf country EZ rides on my crawled and it is nice. The more it flexes and gets worked, the better it gets.

About 9 months age I put a 4" rough country lift on my '76 short bed. It rode the same before and after the lift. It may have even been a little better since it got new shocks. Then after I put new tires on it those tires made a world of difference. Apparently the old tires I had were like rocks, whereas these new tires have alot of flex in the sidewalls. I also did a shackle flip kit in the rear instead of using blocks, and that made a big difference in the ride quality too. Rough country isnt horrible, but you get what you pay for.

And you gotta remember these are 4wd trucks with leaf springs, its gonna ride like a truck no matter what. If you want it to ride like a cadillac, then buy a cadillac

Yeah, but riding like a truck and riding like a log wagon are two different things.

My Burb with 4 inch BDS springs rides about like it did when it was stock.
My old K5 with old 4" Rancho springs (comparable to Rough Country) rode absolutely horrible.
My crew cab with 4" Superlift springs actually does kinda ride like a Caddy (but it's partially because the long wheelbase and the weight of the big block).

My Rough Country 6" is on the stiff side, but I don't mind high spring rates as I actually use my truck to work.

I put a 6" on my K20 and it now has just about ZERO suspension flex. This was only a year and a half ago. I've literally hit my head on the ceiling when going over speed bumps at about 5 mph. If you're buying a rough country lift, buy a helmet too.

I had a 6" on a 88 jeep cherokee and it was stout. Not the best for faster trail running, but the stiffness comes in handy keeping you up off snags when your creeping.

I don't suggest it I have a 70' k10 with the 4" an it is brutal an plus they gave me a 6" lift in the rear keep with tuff country

My 88 k5's front 4in springs are rough country. Its rides like crap... But who cares..... its a lifted truck.. They all ride worse then stock. ONLY way to make its KINDA soft is, do a flip kit in rear and keep the factory springs, and install 52in rear springs out of a 88-98 up front with a conversion kit. Its usually cheaper then a all spring lift kit to do it this way and there are no blocks.

Mine really doesn't ride that bad........and like said above.....it's a lifted solid axle truck.

I'm going to just spend the extra money and buy some tough country springs. I realize its a soid axle truck but it if the option for a better ride is available why make the truck ride worse? The cost difference isn't that much. UjThanks for the input everyone

sorta diggin up the dead here but i see tuff country only makes them for 1/2 ton and 3/4,

im guessing the 3.4 wouldnt work for a 1 ton?

Talk to offroaddesign.com they should have springs for a 1 ton.

rough country lift are junk not only the spring but the ifs kit to I have skyjacker 6" on one truck a super lift on the other started with a 4" run it for 3 years the went up to a 12 the 6" skyjacker and the 4" super lift both rode good for leaf spring trucks the 12" super lift ride worse then a tank but with that kind of lift its either ride quality or height once the big 44" super swampers went on it wasn't to bad

alright so by the looks of things im going to steer clear from rough country and look into skyjacker or superlift
