Tranny fluid in Transfer case

Yes it can. Change the input seal to the T-case. You'll find upon removal that the seal is hard as a rock.

There is an o-ring that fits in the splined coupler to prevent atf from migrating into the transfer case...

Will do. Never done this before. Transfer case doesn't look hard but the transmission looks tricky to get the seal out. I'll post after I'm done.

There is no seal in the trans with a 241 set-up. Just the large O-ring between the adapter and the transmission case. Then you have the gasket between the adapter and the transfer case and the input seal to the t-case. Remove the 4 bolts holding the aluminum input piece (transfer) to remove the seal. Do not over goop the aluminum piece with silicone when re-installing, other wise you'll plug up the drain hole

Thanks KWMECH, I've been going round and round with this and today was the first I heard that there was no seal in the rear of the trans. I got the t/c seal replaced with as little sealer as I could and was careful with the drain area. I'm working on cleaning up the rest to install the t/c back in the car. Thanks for your input.

Well it is back in. I replaced the seal on the input of the transfer case only. I did put some (small amount) silicone sealant around the outside edge of the input flange and another bigger bead on the outside flange of the adapter to transfer case seat. It's filled with ATF and seems to be running fine. I will drain the pan and replace the filter soon but I wanted to get the problem fixed before I started on something new.
