found some 3/4 axles with disc! 2 sets value? you interested?

Here in Redding (pretty much Oregon).

One is out of a 74, with premium warren hubs, $500 looks in good shape, and they say they are, 4:10
(pretty sure I want that one, heerd it works well with 31 or 33's )

the other is an unknown gear ratio (but they match), look worse than the aforementioned set, and they want $275. (rusted discs)

I'm not gear-mechanic inclined (lack of confidence, still a n00b mechanically in general)

Is the set in better shape worth the 500, or is 275 with a mystery ratio a better way to go ?

I have drums all around, starting to "squall" and shake the truck like its going to rip it apart. it would be 700 for a disc conversion kit---- not doing that.

also if you are interested I can find you the number of the set i'm not picking up.

A set of 3/4 ton axles with an open knuckle disk front (Dana44/14b FF) is worth $300 on the upper end (usually more like $200-250), unless they have lockers or something. $500 is way high.

Sounds like "they match" it is 2 different front and rear sets. Premium hubs are $100, rotors are $30 each, so that's $160 on top of the $275 to make it $435, so not much "savings".

4.10 is an excellent gear for 35" tires or an overdrive transmission. A little steep for highway use and 33's, but you can do it.

Most likely the other set is 4.10 also since that is the most common, but could be 3:73 or 4.56 also.

If it is a Dana 44 and not a corporate 10 bolt, they come with a ratio tag on one of the front cover bolts so you can answer that question.

That first set sounds best. That would be the large hub style...same as 71/72. I think $500 is reasonable, especially considering the early design Dana44 disc front axle. You can pay $250-300 for a dime a dozen 14-bolt open rear. I've found deals as good or better than anyone here, but that price is in line with their value. Not everyone wants, and even more don't need,a Dana60 front axle...which are over priced and get even worse if you need any parts. 4.10 is a fine all around ratio,if you ask me. Add overdrive and it's perfect. W/o overdrive and you can either listen to that motor run or just drive at a reasonable speed. I drive my '72 w/4.10s & 235/85-16s allover the place,hauling/empty on back roads to interstates. What has worked fine for 40 years still works fine for me
