Schooled on front bumper supports

Once again I am impressed with the scope of knowledge found on this forum.

Yesterday, while going through different threads I saw a WTB post regarding bumper supports. Simple enough, have many so I checked it out. Come to learn I don't know half of what I thought and am probably guessing at the other half.

Classic Bowties posted a few pictures of different bumper supports and what I assumed was 67-70 K10 supports were the C series and visa-versa. Most of the K series trucks I have had either had winch bumpers or some heavy duty replacement so never really noticed. I am currently trying to build a stock (some liberties) K10 and had cleaned up a set of C series pieces and most likely would have struggled with assembly and wondered why. After all, the C series ones look beefier than the K series. Also found out the ones I have that will fit K series are both tweaked and need to find some more.

That only gets you part way. The 67-70 is also different from the 71-72

I got extremely frustrated finding this out the hard way; it didn't help that the guy who was selling me stuff also had square body stuff mixed in and their brackets look very similar as well.

I found one correct support and am going to drill another bracket to make it work.

I have no luck with search. But I started a thread on front bumper bracket identification where we worked it all out. That thread is here somewhere. I also started a 3spd shift linkage thread I can't find. It's parts like these that vary between years/configurations that seem hardest to ID.

Special K, I saw your bumper brace thread, very well done. It had several examples with color coded dots. I can't remember if it had 4x4 bumper choices.

I don't remember if we had all the brackets. Maybe we never made it complete. I just had a whole slew of brackets so we identified those. I think I had the GMC K-model shown, since I have a spare set for my '72. Now I can't remember if 2wd GMC and 67-70 Chevy are the same. Pretty sure 71/72 stands along in C & Ks, due to signals in bumper.

I am with you on you point of this thread. If there's something you need to know on these trucks, you will find the answer here. It could be sunk back into old threads or you can always ask again. I think we've weeded out the "Google is your friend" and "We already talked about that" posting. Someone will always try to help

There are two styles of 67-70 2WD front left bracket depending on whether the truck had power or manual steering (technically 68-70 since 67 had ram power steering).

Wait, you mean bumper brackets changed by the year, if it was 2wd or 4wd, AND if it had PS?

Yep. You can use the non-power steering brace when you add power steering to a truck that didn't originally come with it but you will have to cut a notch in the brace to clear the power steering gear. When I got my truck back from the guy that added PS to my '70 C/10 I noticed that the support had been notched for clearance. That got me thinking there must have been a different support for PS trucks since I was using original PS parts for the upgrade.
