Post crappy day

I went to replace my clutch today. I got to the point of taking the flywheel off but couldn't because 2 bolts were too tight and I don't have an impact wrench. I tried everything, but the d*mn tranny shop tightened those things down. I even threatened to sell her but those bolts wouldn't budge. I spent about 5 hours on this, all for nothing!! Crud, I don't have any time nor $$$ at this point in life, and I may have to tow this to a shop and spend the big $$$ for them to do this. Dang it!! Sorry, had to vent to my truck brothers.

if it's high egough off the groung try a long tube over the tool you're using it will you more leverage.

Did you try putting a good box end wrench on the bolt securely and hitting it with a BFH? That can be as effective as an impact wrench. Or, if you can't get a box end wrench on because of the dished part of the flywheel, use a 6 point socket and breaker bar but you will get more "springiness" and that won't be quite as effective and be careful so it doesn't smack you in the head!

If you've got it to that point already, couldn't you almost purchase an impact, and maybe even a compressor for the cost of the tow truck and the shop?

Yeah, I tried these suggestions, but still no luck. I even tried wedging a prybar (big screwdriver) into the flywheel teeth as I was pounding away, but no luck.
I think I'll rent a compressor and borrow a friend's impact wrench and try again in a coupla days.
Hmmm, I like Tynee's idea...

That friend that has the impact......don't they have a compressor that you can use?

...not a portable one. Yeah, I'm turning the right way, lol-I know this 'cause all the other bolts loosened that same way. This situation bites because I'm 60mi from where the truck is at and can't work on it again until Tues or Wed! I HAVE to have this working by next Fri or Sat to drive to Seattle.

If you're trying to loosen the bolts, use one of the other bolts to hold the flywheel. You'll end up with the other one tightened, but you'll have the first one out. If you work them enough, you'll finally be able to get all of them out this way.
Also, when you're wrenching, try to have the handle of your breakover bar passing through the center of the flywheel. This gives you advantage over the bolt.
I helped a buddy do a flex plate on a ferd van and we were able to get it this way without impact tools. Couldn't have gotten an impact in there anyway since we only pulled the tranny back far enough to get to the bolts. We used head bolts to slide the tranny back and still keep it close enough not to have to unhook everything else except the driveshaft.

71GMC..thanks, your suggestion worked and got the flywheel bolts off.

Now, I got everything put back together the right way (I think) but I'm getting a loud clicking noise now-any ideas?

did all your bolts go in all the way?? sounds like maybe the tranny shop cross threaded the ones you had trouble getting out.

okay, the tranny shop (me) got all the bolts in and tight.

ok, this may sound stupid but bear with me. The noise wasn't there before and I assumed it was the clutch. A friend came over and listened and suggested that it's coming from the front of the engine (lifter not getting oil), not the clutch. The truck is up on ramps and we think that once it gets level, the lifters will quiet down once the oil can reach them. I'll adjust the clutch pedal and drop it down and I think I'll find he was right.

Yep, it was a lifter. But, I gotta adjust the pedal travel now.
