350 SBC exact Specifications
I have a 72' LWB, 350 SBC. I am trying to see what may or may not be in my engine. I have already looked at the previous mentioned websites about decoding the ID Number. It does not give me a year though and it does not give me the exact factory specifications for a crate engine. Can anyone tell me how I can identify what year the crate engine was manufactured and what cams, crank, inside hardware would be in it without pulling it all apart? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
M09219VP M = Built at GM of Mexico 09 = September 21= Day 9VP= Crate Engine Thank You! Robbie

Re: 350 SBC exact Specifications
It sounds like a targetmaster crate engine.
The VP means crate engine The 9 is the build year. Probably 79 or 89. Can you see the casting number at the rear of the engine? |

Re: 350 SBC exact Specifications
Unless you know the history of the truck and motor, even if you fully ID the casting codes, very possible a PO installed a different cam, lifters, rockers and timing gear set. A fairly common setup is some type of towing cam and/or a timing gear set that lets you adjust the cam timing for better low end performance. Once everything is put back together, hard to tell anything was done.
