Re: Project Ants Marching 1965 C10 Short Step

Went to the swap meet at Carlisle and picked up some sheetmetal for the driver's side and some Irwin vise grips.

These cab supports came with the truck. Very thick and galvanized.

Re: Project Ants Marching 1965 C10 Short Step

Soooo....took a big step forward and brought this home. 2006 4.8/4L60 with 167k miles. Runs like a champ but the whole driver's side is trashed from a run in with a guardrail while "watching a video on my iPhone." I think I got a good deal. Hope to make some back in parts.

Was hoping to use the radiator (was pleasantly surprised to see electric fans) but there is no way. It is too huge.

Anything I need to make sure I do before I start tearing into it? I have to have it out of the driveway ASAP.

Driving is the best time to text, call, or watch videos on your iPhone.

What kind of coating do you have on your garage floor? I like that.

I just had my slab poured last week so I'm shopping for epoxy coatings.

I had it professionally done about 10 years ago. It's an epoxy base with full broadcast vinyl chips and a polyaspartic polyurea top coat. It is holding up great.

Is it a tan base, vinyl chips, then a clear coat? I've never really seen anything like it. It almost looks like you're working at the beach. Haha

i apologize for getting a little off track here....

Full broadcast means 100% chip coverage. All the color is from the mix of chip colors. It's mostly tan with some brown and black and gray mixed in. Not sure of the details any more. It was just a standard option I picked I think. The base epoxy was gray if I remember correctly.

Re: Project Ants Marching 1965 C10 Short Step

Early birthday presents for me

CPP economy LS install kit with low mount AC adapter plates. I upgraded to the ceramic coated manifolds but they aren't here yet.

Also got some new idlers and tensioners from RockAuto to go with the shiny paint.

Re: Project Ants Marching 1965 C10 Short Step

My current issue is reinstalling the PS pump pulley. Bought an installer kit but it appears the internal threads in the pump shaft have evaporated. I tried banging it on but decided that probably wasn't gonna work. Guess I need a new pump and will probably throw in a reservoir for looks. Back to RockAuto...

Re: Project Ants Marching 1965 C10 Short Step

Nice work so far. I have a similar build going with a 66 GMC short step. I bought a 99 1500 4.8L with NV3500 for a doner.

Re: Project Ants Marching 1965 C10 Short Step

Got a new job posting and got real busy. Been driving it here and there. Had Columbus Day off today and decided it was time to jump in with both feet.

Here's me at the post office on Saturday mailing some car parts I sold on facebook.

Then today I figured I'd try to pull the front clip.

Then my neighbor was over to help and we decided to yank the engine too.

Aaaaand all the pictures are upside down.
