Vintage Air vs Old Air

Title says it. Which should I go with? Also if anyone has a picture of an installed block off plate under the hood for an Old Air system I would like to see it. I've seen the vintage one and was wandering if the old air one was the same.
Thanks.

Re: Vintage Air vs Old Air

How about classic air? Just another one to think about. They all are about the same but you may can get a better price by checking with each and seeing if they will match one another's prices.

Talking Re: Vintage Air vs Old Air

I didn't buy the whole kit from Classic air but I bought all the big items and they beat everyones prices at the time.

Condensor, compressor, evaperator and hose kit with all kinds of fittings, still have fittings left.

Re: Vintage Air vs Old Air

Vintage air hands down is the best heat and air kit on the market.. I've installed all the brands and the vintage air performs the best and is the most complete kit in my opinion and I will only sell what I trust.. I've installed to many kits to count and never had a problem with them.. I've actually sold a few vintage air kits lately that people are pulling old air products kits out of there vehicles.. Reasons not sure but I do know they are getting better kits now..

Re: Vintage Air vs Old Air

I put an Old Air system in my truck with a smoothed firewall.

I didn't like the way the Old Air system was supposed to mount to the firewall, it flexed a lot and I didn't think it would last long like that so I made a frame with 1"x1" tubing to stiffen everything up. This is welded on the inside of the firewall. If I were to do it after paint, it would have been a no-go.

The system is way loud on anything higher than low.

Other than that, it works fine. I modified a stock A/C control panel to work with the old air system. Mine is also using a LS1 compressor from an F-body and Old air was able to work with me to get me the parts of the system that I needed. So their customer service was good.

Overall, I'd probably go with a vintage air if I did it over.

I am installing an Old Air system that has a smooth firewall. http://www.oldairproducts.com/catalo...em-p-4298.html
I agree with Ackattack the mount could be better, I also improved mine.
I have used them for other projects and have had good luck, whenever I have had questions they have always been very helpfull.

Vintage air is a very nice system. I'm wrapping up a build now. The system is in and a vacuum has been pulled on the system. Need to finish up the ducting and the control panel and we're done. Check out my build thread in http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=1#post6356218

Re: Vintage Air vs Old Air

I like my old air system. I switched from a 3 belt pulley set up to a serpentine pulley system and there customer service was great. They knew all the parts I would need right off the top of their head and answered every question I had with ease. All of their answers and advice was spot on and worked like a charm. Their shipping is lightning fast as well. Good folks, good product IMHO

Re: Vintage Air vs Old Air

I cant coment on a complete system with heat and air , I like the heater in my 67 so a couple years ago I bought a model 300 old air under dash unit I like the funky retro look it has and it was easy to install and works perfect ! I would probably go with a vintage air kit on an older vehicle where I needed heat and air , ive heard complaints about the heat side of the vintage air kits ? But they say the ac works great ,

Thanks for all the info, I'm leaning toward the vintage as they are all about the same pricing and I kind of like how vintage sets up the block off and hoses under the hood.

Re: Vintage Air vs Old Air

I'll be watching this thread to see what to do with my 70 Suburban. The PO installed a complete system about 15 years ago and the heater core is already bypassed.

Does anyone have pictures of aftermarket systems from 15 years ago? I'd like to figure out what system is in the truck. All four hoses (heater core and AC lines) come out in the firewall in a protruding squareish block.

Paul

Love my Vintage Air. They are a local company here in San Antonio--so they know what HOT is. They have a new system offered that I havent seen any reviews on. Worth checking out.

Yeah, it's absolutely necessary here. I grew up in southwest NY where most 80's/early 90's cars we bought as teens didn't have air either. My parents house doesn't even have A/C. Down here in SC its a different story, we normally have a few weeks with mid to high 90's. When it's not that hot, there's at least 3 or 4 months in the high 80's to mid 90's (mostly low 90's).

The air went out in my mustang and my wife refused to ride in it again until I fixed it. It would have cost almost as much to repair the factory system, so I put an all new VA kit in it.

My C10 has had VA since 2006. Still ice cold.

Re: Vintage Air vs Old Air

I just ordered vintage air because I liked the way the block off plate and hoses ran through the firewall better. I also liked the way they convert the stock controls from cables to electronic.

The kit in my truck has cables (it's from 2006) but my Mustang has a kit from last year and it had the electronic hook ups to the factory controls. Very neat feature.

Re: Vintage Air vs Old Air

In to see different options but it seems that Vintage Air is hands down the way to go. I have read where some people complain about the amount of duct work behind the dash appears to render the glove box useless.

Re: Vintage Air vs Old Air

If you have a factory air truck, the glove box is much smaller from the factory as well, compared to a truck that only had heat.

I honestly don't keep anything in mine in any of my vehicles (classics and new) other than the owners manual, a couple pens, and the registration/insurance info.

Re: Vintage Air vs Old Air

I installed a Vintage Air system 2+ years ago and have had zero issues. I was able to contact the folks at Vintage Air to address any questions I had while installing, and they were courteous and helpful. Anything able to cool me down in central Oklahoma has got to blow cold and blow hard....two thumbs up!
