The shifter will clear the bench. I hope to put the bench seat back in the truck tomorrow night so i can bend up a shifter. the shift throw seams very reasonable as well, a lot shorter than i was expecting.

Trans is back out. replaced 2nd gear, installed 2nd gear carbon syncros, 4th gear syncros. and brass shift fork pads.

Got my trans cooler and line fittings this weekend. also measured for the slave cylinder spacer. .500" slave spacer for the 96 chevy 1500 slave. once I have that I can install trans for hopefully the final time. Just need to throw some paint on the crossmember yet. Hope to throw in the trans witin the next week. I have my driveshaft scheduled for modification the first part of January. So while I'm waiting on the I should be able to fabricate linkage for the clutch master cylinder. Then final assembly on the snifter.

Got the trans back in last night. used a .500" spacer on the slave cylinder. Hurst shifter mounted. and mounted the trans cooler.

So this trans has a pressurized lubricant system?

It had a pump driven off the countershaft. Other than the cooler it's still splash lube.

I'm guessing it uses ATF rather than 90 weight?
Also does this unit have overdrive?

Yes it uses atf. Both 5th and 6 the are overdrive gears

Very cool project you are undertaking! Seems like you 'bout got her figured out. Nice work! Cant wait to hear how she does on the open road. I rebuilt a 250" 6er back in the 90's with 3OTT and always wished for more gears. In hindsight i shoulda gone the T5 route.

Thanks guys. Not a lot getting done during the holidays but hope to start again next week. I ship my driveshaft out for modifications after New Years. Then all I have left is the clutch master.

So the bellhousing is integral to the transmission body? An earlier bell housing is incompatible and therefore no manual Clutch Pedal to Z-bar to Pushrod to Clutch Fork to Throw Out Bearing set up, I gather.

I used to know a guy with a later Jeep and he was always kvetching about bleeding the clutch master cylinder.

UPDATE!!!!

sorry its been a while. I got the clutch master done. and the driveshaft came as well as my new wheels!

I drove it roughly 15 miles up to I would guess 65 mph. (no working speedo yet) its shifts and drives great!

I have a speedo problem on my '71 Jimmy 4x4: big tires [33x12.50xR15LT], so the gauge reads ''slow''. I need for a speedo shop guy to put the right gears into a corrector box, but until I do, I run a GPS, and that gives me very accurate groundspeed information.

I got a conversion box for an electronic speed signal to a cable drive speedo. installed and it works great. I've put about 200 miles on the setup. 6th gear at 60mph is a little doggy. you have to downshift to 5th to climb hills. 6th gear at 65mph plus is great. 70 mph in sixth is about 1700 rpm. I plan to drive it this summer the way it is. I may go from my 3.73 rear end to a 4.11 this winter.

6th gear and having to downshift to 5th would seem normal to me. Going to 4.11's will help as you'll put 6th closer to peak torque. Any idea on how good the gas mileage is?

I have not checked mileage yet. Tomorrow as long as weather permits I plan on taking it on a 3 hour trip. Ill try and get mileage if I do go. Then ill report back. I had gotten as high as 14 mpg with the old 3 speed. I'm curious to see what it ends up getting as well

Depending on your tire size...the ratio difference between 3.73 and 4.10 is about the same as the ratio difference between a new set of tires and a worn out set..if you drop to low on the rear gear then you may have issues with the first couple of gears in your trans being to low to be useful..

Good Job! how is the milage ? if you were to fuel inject it.you would have more torque down low and can pull 6Th better.
