winter cream for our old hands ?

I noticed my hands cut easier in the winter now as my hands get dried out and crack when working on the trucks in the winter close to freezing temps. I usually only wear fingerless gloves as I have a couple crippled fingers that won,t go in a 5 finger glove. I was reading the What ails ya thread and thought someone might tell me and others what works for you. Too many creams on the market to decide.

I like the products from O'Keefes, working hands and healthy feet products. My finger tips split and crack every year, when the are real bad, I Vaseline and wear white cotton gloves to bed.

I wash my hands around 75 times a day. This stuff works better than any other product I’ve tried.

I just suffer. But if you want to avoid all that use Bag Balm, Porter's Liniment salve, or Corn Husker's lotion. I will resort to one of those when the splits get really bad and hurt. It's good to start a hand moisturizing regiment once the weather starts to get cold as a preventive measure. Keep them moisturized to prevent the cracking. I should do that

I'd like to know what to use on finger nails. I'm splitting those things all the time. I split a thumbnail far enough up to bleed, just opening up my Swiss Army knife, the other day. And I keep it sharp and oiled.

Me too, this time of year my mechanic hands get pretty beat up. This stuff works really good.

Re: winter cream for our old hands ?

i work outside yr round, so dry cracked hands are a given, especially in the winter.
i been using Uremol 20 for yrs, keeps the hands from getting too dried out in the first place.
i also find O'Keefe's to work very good too

Re: winter cream for our old hands ?

I'll have to try O'Keefes, if I see it for sale somewhere. Honestly, I have never heard of it until now. That Uremol sounds like good stuff. Just what I was talking about for preventing skin from drying so bad. But there lies another bit of enlightenment for me in this thread. I never would have thought cow piss could be a moisturizer. Yep that's right. Urea is dried cow pee. It's fertilizer, high in nitrogen. When I cleared snow I spread Urea pellets from the farm co-op rather than salt, so as to not harm the concrete the way salt does. I guess salt dries out concrete and urea moisturizes it?

it's actually synthetic urea, completely made in a lab....i would have to think twice about putting real cow piss on my hands....i'm sure my mutts would love it if i did though

Just remember with O’keefes, a little goes a LONG way. It’ll stay greasy for hours if you use too much.

Re: winter cream for our old hands ?

+1 for O'Keefe's Working Hands! Though, to really get ahead of my hands going to hell, when they get bad, I'll rub the Working Hands into my hands last thing before I go to bed, and put on a pair of nitrile gloves. Night and day difference in my hands 6 hours later when I wake up! A couple nights of that will get ahead of damaged, cut up hands!

That's a good sign. Means no alcohol in it. Many lotions have alcohol in them to get them to dry, which causes your skin to dry, which means more lotion, which means more alcohol, which... Yeah, makes a lot of sense.

I don't have the issue, but I can say straight aloe is a miracle worker, and may work for your hands perhaps long term.
