Re: Painting Hard Top (SMC)

I am in the process of stripping the original texture off of my 1971 top, down to the bare SMC. I see where you can spray the U-POL Raptor right over the bare SMC. I made some repairs using West Systems epoxy and have used body filler to smooth them out. Can I spray the Raptor over the bare body filler or do I need to primer it first. I also see where U-POL sells the Raptor already tinted white, GM 8624, Artic White. Is this too bright of a white for the blazer top?

Re: Painting Hard Top (SMC)

When I did mine I sprayed epoxy primer to make sure everything was sealed up. No sure that it was needed but raptor is not meant to go over bare metal because moisture can permeate through it and cause rust.... I figured if that's the case for steel it also wouldn't be good for the smc and filler to absorb moisture.

Re: Painting Hard Top (SMC)

I have a gallon of Sikkens LV260 epoxy primer buff. Can this be used as a sealer over the SMC. It says it is a sandable epoxy primer or a sealer. Also would I have to sand it before the Raptor or spray as is within the time it says without sanding.

Re: Painting Hard Top (SMC)
