Front drop coil spring

I have a 68 swb gmc with a sbc . I have lowered the truck by flipping the rear and using 21/2 inch drop spindles . IT still needs to come down in front at least another inch or two . I have the stock springs in now and maybe could cut them for this but I have never cut springs before and don't know what all is involved. The old springs have at least 100 k on them . Do you really get the one or two inch of drop with new drop springs ? If anyone suggest cutting please explain what needs to be done to the top and bottom of the spring. Thanks
