My new 72 Chevy Custom Camper

1972 Custom Camper 20. 3/4 Ton 2wd with a 400 and auto Tranny.
Here it is, back story and all. First of all. I am a die hard Ford guy. But, this truck has alot of family history. My great grandparents bought it brand new off the lot with 5 miles on it in CA. They then drove it across town and bought a brand new camper to go on back of it. From there, they traveled all over the west coast, and even took my mom with them at the age of 7 to Kentucky to see family. Eventually they moved to Mohave Valley AZ. After they passed on, my grandma got it. That was in 1995. My grandpa used it to elk hunt for a few years, until about 2003 where it has since sat, baking in the AZ sun. My brother and I are both owners of it now and we just got back last night after towing it 800 miles home to Oregon.

Im a diesel mechanic and a Ford guy, so this 400 is somewhat foreign to me. What are some tips and tricks to this ol chevys. Any info on the 400? I hear they are torque monsters. The plan is a full frame off restore, but for now, I wanna get a new 4 barrel on it, some wheels and tires and cruise it until my brother and I can get aligned on restore finances. Thanks in advance!

Re: My new 72 Chevy Custom Camper

Welcome! Cool truck, with a history at that.

You've found the best place for answers.

Folks'll chime in with info, and a search will turn up scads of tips.

Best of luck on the restore.

Good luck with the build! My truck was in the family too, it gives a lot of sentimental value!
